PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Raul Mendonza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Monteiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Raul Mendonza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rodrigo Monteiro!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Paulsen Ambrosius and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendonza fails to land with a series of punches.
Monteiro walks into a stiff left hand from Mendonza.

Monteiro takes a swing at Mendonza's ribcage but misses.
Monteiro lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

and Mendonza counters with a straight right hand.
Monteiro tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mendonza paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Mendonza shoots for a takedown but Monteiro saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Monteiro misses with an uppercut.
Monteiro misses with a body shot.
Monteiro misses the jab.
Monteiro misses with a wild body shot.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mendonza avoids the body shot from Monteiro.
Monteiro throws a body punch but Mendonza moves out of range.
Monteiro shoots in but Mendonza avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Mendonza tries to clinch but Monteiro moves out of range.
Mendonza doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Monteiro scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Monteiro fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mendonza manages to avoid it.

and Mendonza counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Monteiro's guard now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Rodrigo Monteiro will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Nice takedown defense from Monteiro. No joy for Mendonza on that attempt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Monteiro throws a lazy right hand but Mendonza sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Rodrigo Monteiro showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Monteiro working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Mendonza's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Raul Mendonza.
Well Monteiro has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
