PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jorge Cordes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Thomas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jorge Cordes!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Eliza Hachem and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cordes sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Cordes bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Cordes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Thomas keeps working.
Thomas is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Cordes has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Cordes working the head with strikes.
Thomas is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Cordes is controlling him well.

Cordes has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Thomas pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Cordes stuffs the takedown.
Cordes shoots in for a double leg but Thomas sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Thomas explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Thomas misses with an attempted mid kick.
Frank Thomas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thomas lands a high kick!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cordes misses with a hook.

Cordes looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Thomas is breathing heavily.

Cordes is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Thomas doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cordes.
Cordes is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Thomas defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Cordes.

Thomas bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Thomas is fighting to break Cordes's control of his arms but Cordes is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Thomas has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Cordes is pulling down on Thomas's head to control his posture.
Cordes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Thomas wants to get back to his feet.
Thomas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cordes on the ground.
Cordes not doing much here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Cordes is looking for a kimura here.
Cordes controlling the pace.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cordes connects with a nice short shot to Thomas's temple.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jorge Cordes dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Cordes changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Thomas looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Cordes tries to move into full mount but can't pass Thomas's legs.
Cordes trying to control the action but Thomas is working from the bottom.
Cordes lands a nice forearm strike.

Cordes has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Thomas is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Cordes yanks on the arm and Thomas is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Cordes.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jorge Cordes!
