PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Francisco Valdez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oishi Yoshio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yoshio has chosen "Stronger" by Kanye West as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Oishi Yoshio is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Francisco Valdez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Oishi Yoshio!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valdez cracks Yoshio with a right hand to the side of the head.


It looks like Oishi Yoshio has been cut.
Yoshio is looking to clinch.
Yoshio looks for the body kick but Valdez saw that one coming.
Valdez swinging wildly here.
Yoshio tries to move into range but Valdez moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Yoshio throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Valdez blocks a low kick nicely.
Yoshio misses with a low kick.
Valdez checks a leg kick nicely.
Yoshio will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A bone on bone clash there as Yoshio blocks the leg kick.

Yoshio gets the takedown into side control.

Yoshio misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Valdez is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Yoshio asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The strikes coming from Yoshio are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Valdez prevents Yoshio from moving into mount.
Valdez is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Yoshio is controlling him well.
The ground and pound from Yoshio seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Yoshio misses with the ground and pound.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Valdez checks a leg kick.

Yoshio moves into the clinch successfully.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Valdez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Yoshio's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Yoshio gets control of Valdez's arms and successfully pulls guard. Yoshio will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Yoshio wants to sweep here but Valdez controlling him for the moment.
Valdez wanted to stand there but Yoshio had control of the position.
Yoshio has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Valdez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Yoshio is proving hard to escape from.

Valdez gets to his feet. Yoshio looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Yoshio throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Valdez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A slapping leg kick lands for Yoshio.
Yoshio scores with a nice body kick.
Valdez is breathing heavily.
Yoshio buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Valdez tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Yoshio scores with the left hand. Valdez knows he should have avoided that one.
Valdez misses with a body shot.
Yoshio throws a nice head kick!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Nice jab there from Yoshio.
No joy there for Valdez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Yoshio pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Yoshio misses with a kick to the body.

Yoshio forces Valdez back against the cage and clinches.
Valdez wants to get back to striking at distance but Yoshio won't allow it.

Yoshio gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Yoshio slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Valdez is fighting to break Yoshio's control of his arms but Yoshio is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Oishi Yoshio dominated that round.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Yoshio tries to score a power double leg takedown but Valdez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Yoshio somewhat.
Valdez checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Valdez throws a right and a left that Yoshio avoids nicely.
Yoshio lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Valdez lands with a nice body kick.
Yoshio throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Yoshio gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Valdez counters with a straight right hand.
Valdez loads up on a big right hand but Yoshio slips the punch.

A jab lands there for Valdez.
Yoshio fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Valdez.
Yoshio attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Francisco Valdez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Valdez throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Valdez avoids a kick to the body.
Yoshio tries to score with a low kick but Valdez moves his leg out of the way.
Yoshio displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Valdez throws out the jab.
Yoshio misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Yoshio throws a quick inside leg kick.
Yoshio is looking to land body kicks.

Oishi Yoshio seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yoshio throws a body punch but Valdez moves out of range.
Valdez throws a lazy right hand but Yoshio sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Valdez throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Valdez avoids the head kick by Yoshio.
Valdez jabs Yoshio right on the nose. Yoshio blinks but takes it well.
Valdez bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Yoshio's head backwards.
Valdez takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
A jab lands there for Yoshio.
Yoshio tries to score a power double leg takedown but Valdez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Yoshio somewhat.
Yoshio misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Valdez.
Valdez throws a hook but Yoshio avoids it easily.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Yoshio takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Yoshio tries to land a front kick but Valdez steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Yoshio slips a jab from Valdez.
Valdez does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Francisco Valdez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Yoshio throws a low kick but it's checked well by Valdez.
Yoshio blocks a leg kick.
Yoshio misses with a looping left.
Yoshio misses with a straight left.
Valdez swings and misses with a shot to the body
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Valdez lands a nice looking body shot.
Yoshio moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Yoshio will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Yoshio shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Yoshio takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Valdez attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Yoshio takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Yoshio fails with the takedown
and Valdez counters with a nice body shot.
An inside leg kick from Valdez misses.
Valdez throws a jab but it's blocked by Yoshio.
Valdez lands a nice leg kick that just misses Yoshio's sensitive parts.
Valdez misses with a double jab.
Yoshio throws a leg kick that is checked
and Yoshio takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Valdez is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Yoshio on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Valdez!
Valdez throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Yoshio stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Valdez thows a body shot but no joy.
Yoshio has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Yoshio there as he acknowledges the shot.
Yoshio misses with a low kick.
Yoshio tries to move into range but Valdez moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Valdez throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Yoshio.
Valdez throws a predictable looking body shot

and Yoshio counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Yoshio.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Yoshio won't allow Valdez to get back to his feet.

Valdez kicks Yoshio off and gets to his feet.
Yoshio throws a leg kick that is checked
and Valdez cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Yoshio takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Valdez fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Valdez misses with a straight right.
Valdez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Yoshio is looking to land body kicks.
Yoshio slips a jab from Valdez.
Yoshio throws the kick towards the body but Valdez avoids it.
Valdez thows a leg kick but Yoshio checks it

and Yoshio counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Valdez pushes Yoshio off looking to stand but Yoshio dives back in and keeps control.
Yoshio throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Valdez is not content to let Yoshio control the position.

Yoshio looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Valdez looks like he's trying to stand up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Francisco Valdez showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Valdez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
