The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Backer swats away the attempt to clinch by Clifford.
Chew Backer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Backer moves in looking to clinch but Clifford pushes him off.
Clifford shoots in for a takedown but Backer shows good takedown defense.
Clifford lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Backer drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Backer is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Clifford has escaped the position, nice work there.

Backer goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Clifford has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Backer but great work by Clifford.

Backer controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Backer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Clifford swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Backer is really struggling to control Clifford but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Backer is thwarting Clifford's attempts to control the position.
Backer thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Clifford's head.

Backer is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Clifford gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chew Backer. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Clifford drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Clifford has hold of Backer's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Backer seems comfortable defending it but Clifford has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Backer is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Backer is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Clifford couldn't care less - he's delighted!
