Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dr Alban (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Ball (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dr Alban has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Dr Alban!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Ball!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alban tries to land a front kick but Ball steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Ball looks to land a left hand but Alban moved out of range nicely.
Alban throws a chopping leg kick but Ball manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Nice takedown defense from Ball. No joy for Alban on that attempt.
Alban fails to land with a series of punches.

Alban looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ball can do anything to dispel that myth.
Alban controlling the pace.
Alban seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ball for as long as he can get away with.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Alban wants to free his trapped foot but Ball is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Alban has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Alban wants to pass the guard but Ball is defending well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Alban is controlling the pace.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Dr Alban just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Alban loads up on a big right hand but Ball slips the punch.
Alban uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Ball has time to react.
Ball swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Alban throws a nice looking combination but Ball bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Alban feints and as Ball raises his hands in defense, Alban changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Alban pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ball is keeping the position for now.
Ball avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Alban throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Ball really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alban. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Alban is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Ball looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Alban controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Ball looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Alban puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Ball gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Alban showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Alban's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Dr Alban just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Alban smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Alban lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ball circles away quickly and effectively.
Alban lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A big left from Alban misses.
Ball thows a leg kick but Alban checks it
and Alban counters with a stiff right hand.


It looks like Jack Ball has been cut.
Ball staying out of range there.

Alban looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Alban seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Ball avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Alban.
Alban perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Alban wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ball keeps working.
Alban is taking a breather. Ball says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Alban wants to pass the guard but Ball is defending well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Ball keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Ball dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Ball scores with a three punch combo!
Ball lands with an uppercut that bounces Alban off the ropes and back into rage.
Ball takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Alban throws a hook but Ball avoids it easily.
Dr Alban is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Alban shoots in for a takedown but Ball shows good takedown defense.
Ball uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Alban.
Alban uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ball.
Ball misses with a double jab
and Ball takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Alban uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ball.
Ball throws a shot from downtown. Alban moves away and avoids it.
Ball throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Ball takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Alban drives through with a takedown into guard.
Alban looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alban stands and throws Ball's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Alban misses with the ground and pound.
Ball stops Alban from passing to mount.
Alban lands a few punches from side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alban trying to control the position but Ball is working away.
Alban moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Ball is looking for a sweep.
Dr Alban is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Alban slows the pace down.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ball is trying to control Alban's posture but Alban avoids it.
The referee asks Alban politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Alban prefers to stall for the moment though.
Ball stops Alban from passing to mount.
Alban remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dr Alban.
Well Alban has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
