PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Felipe Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bada Boom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Costa comes into the arena with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbfXPF1aRGI blaring out of the sound system. Boom is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Metallica - All Nightmare Long. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Felipe Costa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bada Boom!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yuuki Gou and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boom changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Costa tries to avoid it but Boom manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Costa to the ground. Costa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Boom scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Boom is trying to get an arm triangle but Costa is defending well.
Costa is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Boom's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Boom drops back looking for a leg! Costa is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Costa manages to kick Boom off! Boom jumps back into Costa's guard.

Costa looking to control but Boom is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Costa stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Costa tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Boom paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Boom will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Boom avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Boom throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Costa was covering up waiting for the punch and Boom finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Costa wants to sweep here but Boom controlling him for the moment.
Costa manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Boom manages to get himself to full guard.
Costa stands and throws Boom's legs to the side, diving into side control.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Boom changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Costa fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Boom takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Costa lands a left hand that snaps the head of Boom backwards.
Boom has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Costa is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Costa is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Boom knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Costa is really struggling to control Boom but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Bada Boom has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Costa is keen to just control but Boom is a slippery customer.
Costa uses his free foot to push down on Boom's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Boom.
Costa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Boom is looking to escape.

Boom is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Costa has taken his back.

Costa lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Boom manages to reverse the position and now he's in Costa's guard. Nice work there by Boom.

Costa is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Boom defends well.

Felipe Costa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boom trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Costa is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Costa is on top in guard.

Well Costa has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
