The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Evans fails with a takedown attempt.
Demetriou slaps away a takedown attempt from Evans, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Evans has a takedown stuffed.

Demetriou leaves Evans with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Demetriou holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Demetriou is on top in guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Demetriou's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Evans steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Demetriou.
Evans shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Demetriou counters with a right hand to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The crowd cheers as Demetriou lands an impressive looking overhand right. Evans doesn't seem phased though.

Despite being in the dominant position, Nikolaos Demetriou just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
