PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Wells Dengel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Viktor Savelyevich Onopko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dengel comes to the cage accompanied by "Backlash" by Front Line Assembly. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wells Dengel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Viktor Savelyevich Onopko!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Konstantin Menshow and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Onopko stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Dengel.
Onopko defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Dengel.

Dengel closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Onopko did well to prevent Dengel getting side control.
Dengel seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Dengel seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Onopko for as long as he can get away with.

Onopko tries to get to full guard but Dengel has control of the leg.

Dengel is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Onopko is just riding it out for now. Dengel eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dengel is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Onopko is just riding it out for now. Dengel eventually gives up the hold.
Dengel will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Onopko can do anything to dispel that myth.

Dengel sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Dengel takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Onopko tries to bum rush Dengel with a series of wild strikes but Dengel uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Onopko is looking to control Dengel's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Onopko avoid being mounted?

Onopko loads up on a big right hand but Dengel slips the punch.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Dengel scores with a jab to the head.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wells Dengel dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!


Onopko takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Onopko throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Onopko throws a nice looking combination but Dengel bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Onopko avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Onopko throws a jab but it's blocked by Dengel.
Wells Dengel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Onopko gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dengel slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wells Dengel showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dengel, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
