PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between King Bass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucas Kellis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kellis is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Cypress Hill How I Could Just Kill a Man. Lucas Kellis will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, King Bass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lucas Kellis!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Gregory Folan and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bass moves out of range as Kellis strikes.

Bass drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Kellis is controlling Bass's posture.
Bass postures up in Kellis's guard and throws a big left but Kellis blocks it.
Kellis trying to keep a closed guard but Bass is proving a slippery customer.
Bass trying to control the position from guard on top but Kellis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bass throwing strikes but missing.
Kellis controls Bass momentarily but Bass frees himself.
Bass passes Kellis's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Bass stops Kellis from getting back to his feet.
Kellis is looking to improve his position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kellis doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Bass counters with a takedown into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bass trying to control the position but Kellis is working away.
Kellis gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Bass is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Kellis has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Kellis!
Bass really is a fat lump.
Bass is trying to control the position but Kellis postures up.
Kellis trying to control but Bass is working from the bottom.
Kellis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Bass looking for a sweep. Not yet Bass, not yet.

Bass escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kellis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bass is breathing heavily.
Bass keeping moving, preventing Kellis from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kellis wants to pass the guard but Bass is keeping the position.
Kellis passes Bass's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Bass is pressing down on Kellis's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Bass is trying to control the position but Kellis postures up.

Kellis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kellis working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Bass trying to keep a closed guard but Kellis is proving a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bass is controlling Kellis's posture.
Bass might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bass escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kellis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bass wants to sweep here but Kellis controlling him for the moment.

Bass looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bass looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kellis is one step ahead there.
Bass working a defensive guard here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bass wants to hit a switch here but Kellis passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Bass there!
Kellis avoids the attempt from Bass to control.
Bass is wriggling around trying to escape.
Bass is working hard here to advance position.
Kellis lands a big shot there that rocks Bass but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Kellis lands a heavy elbow.
Kellis is landing with some decent strikes but Bass is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Kellis lands with some strikes.
Bass in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
BOOM! Kellis connects with a massive shot to the dome!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that King Bass will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kellis falls off balance throwing a combination

so Bass counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Bass tries to free his leg and advance position but Kellis is retaining full guard.
Kellis looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Kellis looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Kellis is pulling down on Bass's head. It's preventing any offense from Bass, at least for the moment.
Bass throwing strikes but missing.
Kellis trying to control the position.

Bass gets to his feet - Kellis follows without any prompting.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bass feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Bass won't allow Kellis to sweep him here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kellis is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kellis throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Bass trying to control but Kellis is working from the bottom.
Kellis looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Kellis is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Bass frees his head nicely. Oh but Kellis has switched to an armbar! Bass is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
