Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chicharito Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Hugh Johnson and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aldo lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Velasquez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Aldo circles away.
Velasquez tries for a takedown but Aldo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Aldo throws a shot from downtown. Velasquez moves away and avoids it.
Aldo lands a body shot.
Aldo jabbing away but nothing is landing.
The fighters circling - Aldo throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

and Aldo counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Velasquez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Aldo's guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Aldo scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Aldo comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Velasquez has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Aldo throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Velasquez stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Good exchange - Aldo coming out on top.
Aldo scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Velasquez takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Aldo lands with a straight right. Velasquez didn't see that one coming.
Velasquez shoots for a takedown but Aldo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Aldo scores with a one two! Velasquez had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Aldo is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Velasquez had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Aldo closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Velasquez displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Aldo throws out the jab.

Velasquez shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Aldo manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Aldo works the jab nicely.
Velasquez will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Aldo will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Aldo can do anything to dispel that myth.

Velasquez tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Aldo dodges the ground and pound from Velasquez.
Velasquez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Aldo keeps working.
Aldo tries to escape but Velasquez is in control.
Aldo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Velasquez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Aldo throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Velasquez doesn't manage to clinch there - Aldo circles away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Nice straight punches there by Aldo. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Aldo.

Velasquez moves into the clinch successfully.
Aldo is trying to break the clinch but Velasquez has him pressed against the cage.

Velasquez drops down looking for an ankle pick but Aldo pulls his leg out and moves away.

Velasquez dives in and grabs Aldo's left leg, looking for a takedown. Aldo pushes down on Velasquez's head and hops out.

Jose Aldo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Velasquez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Aldo tries to avoid it but Velasquez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Aldo to the ground. Aldo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Velasquez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Velasquez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Velasquez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Chicharito Velasquez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
