PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Karim Chamakh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roy Jones Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chamakh comes to the cage accompanied by Linda Sundblad - To All My Girls. Roy Jones Jr will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Igor Prikhodko and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones Jr lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


It looks like Karim Chamakh has been cut.

Chamakh shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Chamakh prevents Jones Jr from standing back up.
Jones Jr wants to control but Chamakh is keeping busy.
Jones Jr tries to kick Chamakh off in order to stand up. Chamakh Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Jones Jr is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Chamakh is controlling him well.

Chamakh could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Chamakh closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jones Jr tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

That was a close round but I would say that Karim Chamakh will probably get the nod.

Jones Jr has his takedown stuffed

and Chamakh counters with a shoot takedown. Jones Jr fights it but they end up in guard.
Chamakh slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Chamakh remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chamakh has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Jones Jr is breathing heavily.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Karim Chamakh just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Jones Jr is trying to maintain the position but Chamakh is very close to passing his half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Chamakh in particular looking to stall.

Chamakh moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Jones Jr.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Chamakh shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jones Jr's guard.

Jones Jr takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Chamakh, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
