PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Emmanuel Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zanos Pogrieshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pogrieshi has chosen Nile - the Infinity Of Stone as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Emmanuel Rodriguez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zanos Pogrieshi!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Winston Howard and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez wants to clinch up but Pogrieshi keeps it at a distance.
Rodriguez tries to clinch there but Pogrieshi circles away.
Rodriguez throws out a powerful jab.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Pogrieshi is defended easily by Rodriguez.
Rodriguez throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Pogrieshi's head.
Zanos Pogrieshi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A head kick by Pogrieshi misses
and Rodriguez makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Pogrieshi wants to clinch but Rodriguez slips to the side
and Rodriguez counters with a nice low kick that buckles Pogrieshi's knee momentarily.
Pogrieshi throws a lazy body kick
and Rodriguez counters with a series of strikes. Pogrieshi will be more careful next time no doubt.
Pogrieshi looks gassed!
Pogrieshi throws a head kick that misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Pogrieshi is defended easily by Rodriguez.

Rodriguez sets himself and throws a head kick that knocks Pogrieshi to the ground! Rodriguez dives into full mount looking to finish!


Pogrieshi is rocked!


It looks like Zanos Pogrieshi has been cut.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rodriguez wants to get back to his feet but Pogrieshi is holding on tight.
Rodriguez content just to control the position here.
Rodriguez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

and Rodriguez counters with a nice uppercut.

Rodriguez moves in looking to clinch but Pogrieshi pushes him off.
A head kick by Pogrieshi misses
and Rodriguez counters with a three punch combo that has Pogrieshi backing up. Pogrieshi nods at Rodriguez to acknowledge the strikes.
Pogrieshi misses with a shot to the body
and Rodriguez counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Pogrieshi is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Pogrieshi has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


That has opened up Zanos Pogrieshi's cut even more.
Rodriguez tries to clinch but Pogrieshi moves out of range.

Pogrieshi tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Both fighters circling a little - Rodriguez finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Zanos Pogrieshi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Zanos Pogrieshi's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Rodriguez moves in looking to clinch but Pogrieshi pushes him off.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
