And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, James Edwards!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Ren Mimura and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hayato showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Edwards.
Edwards is looking to slow Hayato down with leg kicks.

Edwards has managed to clinch.
Hayato takes a knee to the side of the body.
Edwards utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

Edwards breaks the clinch.
Edwards tries to close the distance and clinch but Hayato swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hayato shoots in for a double leg but Edwards sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Hayato takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Edwards throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
A nice combination there by Edwards.
Edwards comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Edwards digs a good body shot into Hayato's ribs.
Edwards changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Edwards connects with the punch.
Edwards lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Edwards darts in and clinches Hayato up against the cage.

Hayato is breathing heavily.

Hayato gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Edwards to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Edwards is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Hayato might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Edwards is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Edwards tries to stand but Hayato is controlling from the bottom.

Edwards's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Edwards has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hayato is proving hard to escape from.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

That's time! Hayato's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Edwards is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hayato's half guard.

Despite being in the dominant position, James Edwards just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Edwards gets a clinch.
Edwards throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Edwards's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Edwards works over Hayato's head and body with a nice combination.

Edwards darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Edwards stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Hayato to get to his feet.

Edwards closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Edwards tries to pull guard but Hayato holds him up against the cage and eventually Edwards drops back down to his feet.

Edwards ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Edwards no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Edwards is controlling Hayato's trapped leg to prevent Hayato from advancing to side control.

Edwards has a hand on Hayato's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Hayato takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Edwards wants to control but Hayato is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Edwards is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Edwards showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Edwards throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hayato stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Edwards lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Edwards closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Edwards perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Hayato wants to get back to full guard.
Edwards takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Edwards is looking to advance position but Hayato won't allow it.

Edwards wants to work for an arm triangle but Hayato is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Edwards content to control rather than advance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Edwards stands up from half guard.
Edwards lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Hayato darts in trying to clinch

and Edwards counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Edwards stalling.
Hayato wants to get back to his feet.
Edwards wants to pass the guard but Hayato is defending well.
Edwards seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Edwards seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Edwards missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Edwards has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Edwards stalling.

James Edwards comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Edwards has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
