PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lath Hoy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Boot Head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hoy's entrance music is Go Ninja-Vanilla Ice. A fine choice. Head has chosen New Divide as his entrance music. Boot Head has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lath Hoy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Boot Head!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Hoy looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hoy tries to close the distance and clinch up but Head swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hoy misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Head fails to land with a series of punches.
Hoy is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hoy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hoy content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Hoy passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Head!
Head is in all sorts of trouble here.
Hoy avoids the attempt from Head to control.

Hoy goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Head turns into him and now he's in Hoy's guard.

Hoy controls Head momentarily but Head frees himself.
Head trying to control the position from guard on top but Hoy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hoy is trying to control the position but Head postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hoy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Head can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hoy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Head gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hoy manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Head manages to get himself to full guard.
Head is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Hoy content to stall in guard here.
Head wants to stand up but Hoy is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hoy passes Head's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Head is trying to stand back up but Hoy is controlling him
Hoy tries to pass to full mount but Head defends it.
Head has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hoy is working away from the top position though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Head misses with a few strikes there.

Head tries to keep at a distance but Hoy has taken the fight into the clinch.
Hoy has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Head is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
A body shot lands from Head.

Head stalling in the clinch.
Head prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lath Hoy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Head is looking to control Hoy's arms but Hoy gets an underhook and turns him. Now Head has his back to the cage.
Hoy wants a takedown but no success here.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Head lands a body punch in the clinch.
Hoy fails to pull guard.
Head presses Hoy against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Hoy fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Hoy is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Head pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Hoy is breathing heavily.
A hook to the body from Head.
Hoy tries to pull guard but Head holds him up against the cage and eventually Hoy drops back down to his feet.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Hoy fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Hoy jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Head walks away with a smile on his face. Hoy gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Head bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Hoy's head backwards.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Boot Head will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Head swats away the attempt to clinch by Hoy.
A decent looking cross lands there for Hoy.
Head throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Hoy has Head up against the cage in a clinch.
Head gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hoy.
Hoy tries to pull guard but Head won't allow it.
Head lands an uppercut.

Head breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hoy drives through and clinches with Head against the cage.
Hoy fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lath Hoy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hoy jumps guard but Head stands there with Hoy around his waist. Hoy gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Hoy drags the fight down to the ground.

Hoy is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Head defends well.

Hoy looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Head slips nicely into half guard.
Hoy is trying to maintain the position but Head is very close to passing his half guard.
Head tries to stand and escape but Hoy is controlling the position.
Hoy wants to improve his position but Head is controlling well.
Head seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Head wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hoy keeps working.

The fighters are battling for position here. Hoy manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Hoy has hold of Head's hands but Head slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Hoy is refusing to be controlled, as Head sits in half guard.
Hoy is trying to control but can't.

Hoy is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Head's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Head's back!

Hoy seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Head's chin but Head turns very nicely into Hoy's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Head.

Head wants to get up but he can't break Hoy's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Head must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Head tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Hoy is looking to clinch.

Boot Head showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Hoy shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Hoy is trying to control the action in half guard but Head is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Head tries to kick Hoy off but Hoy keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Hoy is looking to take a break and control but Head is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Hoy is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Hoy closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Hoy wants to pass to mount but Head is defending the position.
Head wants to control but Hoy is keeping busy.

Hoy is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Head is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Hoy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Head keeps working.

Hoy uses his free foot to push down on Head's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Head.
Head tries to reverse the position but Hoy maintains control.
Hoy trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Hoy controlling the position easily from mount.
Head is controlling an arm, preventing Hoy from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Head sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Hoy is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Head doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hoy.

Hoy perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Head manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Head cracks Hoy with a right hand to the side of the head.
Head misses with a few strikes there.
Head takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hoy ducks under a wild hook from Head.
Nice sprawl there from Head as Hoy shoots in.
Lath Hoy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Boot Head is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Hoy lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lath Hoy showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Head has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
