The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez shoots in looking for a takedown. Thorburn tries to sprawl out of it but Mendez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Thorburn manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A lazy left from Thorburn finds it's target.
Thorburn stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Thorburn wants it to stay on the feet.
Thorburn throws a series of punches but Mendez avoids them all with ease.
Mendez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Mendez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Thorburn sprawls well initially but Mendez persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
