PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Konrad Knudsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Silver Back (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Knudsen comes into the arena with Gorgoroth - Destroyer blaring out of the sound system. Back has chosen Man In The Box as his entrance music. Konrad Knudsen could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Silver Back's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Konrad Knudsen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Silver Back!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Richard Clark and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knudsen fails in his attempt to clinch.
Back shoots in looking for a takedown. Knudsen tries to sprawl out of it but Back keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Knudsen manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Back decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Knudsen taking some punishment here, with Back in his half guard.
Back working over Knudsen with some ground and pound. Knudsen looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Back missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Back is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Knudsen reverses the position - he's now on top in Back's guard.

Back has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Knudsen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Back doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Back tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Back wants to improve his position but instead Knudsen has moved into half guard.
Back is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Knudsen is controlling the pace.
Back tries to get to full guard but Knudsen has control of the leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Knudsen stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Back to get to his feet.
Knudsen throws a nice head kick!


It looks like Silver Back has been cut.
Back keeps the fight on the outside.

Back feints and as Knudsen raises his hands in defense, Back changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Back stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Knudsen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Back working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Back has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Back advances position into side control!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Knudsen stops Back from passing to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Back works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Back passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Knudsen!
Back lands a big shot there that rocks Knudsen but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Back looking to ground and pound but Knudsen is blocking nicely.
Back misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Knudsen is in a horrible position here. Back smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Knudsen is breathing heavily.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Back cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Back throws a sloppy strike and Knudsen uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Knudsen has ended up in Back's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Back looking for a guillotine here but Knudsen defends easily.
Back manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Knudsen is in a horrible position here. Back smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silver Back dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Silver Back's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Knudsen checks a leg kick nicely.
Back scores with a shot to the body.

Back gets the takedown into side control.
Back tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Back tries to score with some ground and pound. Knudsen controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Back landing strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Knudsen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Back wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Back working away.
Knudsen takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Back tries to advance to mount but Knudsen denies him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Back is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Back cracks Knudsen with a big elbow.
Back creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Back misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Knudsen on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Back tries to advance to mount but Knudsen denies him.
Back connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Knudsen some visible discomfort.
Back in side control, throwing shots but Knudsen defends.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Back wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Knudsen, who protects the arm well.
Back throws an elbow but Knudsen slips to the side and avoids it well.
Back working the ground and pound.
Back works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Back in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Knudsen regains half guard, as Back was trying to land strikes.
Back is nestled in close to Knudsen, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Silver Back has got the better of the ground game so far.

Back throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Back trying to advance position but Knudsen counters by regaining guard.
Back stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Knudsen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Back accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Back forces his way into half guard.
Knudsen controlling the position well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Back trying to mount his opponent but Knudsen defends it.
Knudsen regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Back.
Back works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Back with the ground and pound but Knudsen uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Back passes into half guard.
Back is looking to advance position but Knudsen won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silver Back showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Silver Back's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Back shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Back throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Knudsen keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Back trying to mount his opponent but Knudsen defends it.
Back misses with a head shot. Knudsen uses the momentum to regain guard.
Back looking to pass the guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Back in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Knudsen not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Knudsen avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Knudsen gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Knudsen keeping full guard, as Back tries to pass.
Back trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Back trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Silver Back is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Knudsen wants to stand but Back is controlling the position.
Back seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Back trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Back slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Back keeps the fight on the outside.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Back lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Back scores a takedown into full mount!
Knudsen working to try and regain half guard.
Back takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Konrad Knudsen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Back has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Knudsen wants to hold on but Back pushes him away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Knudsen is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Back controlling from the full mount.

Silver Back comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Back winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
