PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gage Hale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tonny Chopper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hale's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, like a toy soilder-eminem. Tonny Chopper is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gage Hale!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tonny Chopper!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Steve Erwin and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chopper dives in and grabs Hale's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hale pushes down on Chopper's head and hops out.
Hale has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Gage Hale has been cut.
Hale tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chopper swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Chopper clinches.
Chopper is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Chopper tries for a takedown. No joy.
Hale has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Chopper keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Hale's efforts to push away.

Chopper pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Hale throws a body kick that misses.

Chopper gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hale to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Chopper looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hale being controlled here momentarily.
Hale is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Hale throws and elbow that misses. Chopper uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hale's guard. Nice move by Chopper!

Chopper stands and steps away. Hale gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

and Chopper counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Chopper pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hale is keeping the position for now.

Chopper loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chopper accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Chopper decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chopper circles away from the clinch attempt

and Chopper counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hale won't be happy with that.
Chopper looks gassed!
Chopper wants to control but Hale is keeping him busy.

Chopper has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Chopper shoots in for a double leg but Hale sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Gage Hale has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tonny Chopper.

Hale shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Chopper's guard.
Hale thows a big elbow that misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hale won't allow Chopper to sweep him here.
Hale throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Chopper works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hale postures up in Chopper's guard and throws a big left but Chopper blocks it.
Hale has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hale is looking to work some ground and pound but Chopper has wrist control.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hale's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Hale thows a big elbow that misses.
Hale throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hale fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Chopper avoids it really well and circles away.

Chopper darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chopper looks to land a strike but Hale avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tonny Chopper dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Gage Hale's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Chopper works over Hale's head and body with a nice combination.
Hale throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Hale fails with the takedown

and Chopper counters by clinching up.
Hale jumps guard but Chopper stands there with Hale around his waist. Hale gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Chopper presses Hale against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Hale is trying to force a seperation but Chopper has the dominant position.

Hale tries to pull guard but Chopper won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gage Hale. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hale misses with a short punch on the inside.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chopper jumps guard and drags Hale to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Hale throws a big right hand that misses.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hale won't allow Chopper to sweep him here.
Hale in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Chopper has his foot on Hale's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hale works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Chopper decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hale, up you get!

Chopper breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Chopper misses with a few strikes there.

so Chopper counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Tonny Chopper has got the better of the ground game so far.

Chopper gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

and Chopper decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hale's guard.
Chopper loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Hale throws and elbow that misses. Chopper uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hale's guard. Nice move by Chopper!

Chopper gets to his feet. Hale looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tonny Chopper showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


A slow jab from Chopper misses its intended target.
Hale throws a hook to the side of Chopper's head but Chopper sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Chopper shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hale throws a sloppy head kick
and Chopper counters with a stiff right hand.
Hale shoots and misses

and Chopper moves into the clinch.
Hale tries to pull guard but Chopper holds him up against the cage and eventually Hale drops back down to his feet.
Hale wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Chopper lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Hale backwards.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hale is trying to break free.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hale wants to get back to striking at distance but Chopper won't allow it.

Chopper's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Chopper shoots and misses

and Hale decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Chopper's guard.
Chopper avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Hale in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hale throws a strike but Chopper rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Chopper is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hale is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hale has escaped and now he's on top!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hale's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Chopper working for a triangle but Hale defends it easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hale accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Chopper tries to strike from the bottom.
Hale won't allow Chopper to sweep him here.
Chopper is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Hale working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Hale throws a sloppy head kick

and Chopper counters with a shoot takedown. Hale fights it but they end up in guard.

Chopper drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hale looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hale looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hale!

Hale tries to score with some ground and pound. Chopper controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Hale working the strikes but Chopper uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

Hale thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Chopper's head.
Hale with the ground and pound but Chopper uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Chopper doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Hale counters with a takedown into side control.
Chopper is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hale is controlling him well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chopper is looking to regain half guard here but Hale keeps moving and retains side control.
Hale in side control lands a decent elbow.
Hale is chipping away with strikes.
Chopper defending against the ground and pound.
Chopper tries to buck Hale off but Hale is having none of it.
Chopper manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Chopper regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Hale.
Hale is looking to work some ground and pound but Chopper has wrist control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Chopper is on top in guard.
Chopper wants to pass the guard but Hale is keeping the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Gage Hale.
Well Chopper has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
