PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Greg Ninja (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Fay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Ninja might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to like a toy soilder-eminem. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Greg Ninja!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dean Fay!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Tarja Halkonen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ninja shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Fay sprawls well. Fay wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ninja gets slowly back to his feet.
Ninja looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Fay tries to bum rush Ninja with a series of wild strikes but Ninja uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Fay throws the kick towards the body but Ninja avoids it.
Ninja shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Fay defends it nicely.
Ninja closes the distance and clinches up with Fay, looking for a takedown. Ninja pushes Fay against the cage but Fay circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Greg Ninja. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ninja has a takedown stuffed.
Ninja doesn't manage to clinch there - Fay circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fay moves into the clinch.

Fay gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Ninja won't allow Fay to pass to mount.

Fay is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fay trying to control from Ninja's half guard. Ninja has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Fay showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ninja keeping moving, preventing Fay from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Fay is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Fay looking to pass the guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fay is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ninja looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Fay decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fay sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Ninja defending well though.

Fay seems to be working for a kimura but Ninja defends the submission attempt.
Fay thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Ninja to regain full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fay tries to stand but Ninja is controlling from the bottom.
Fay throwing strikes from guard but Ninja blocks nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Fay wants to pass the guard but Ninja is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dean Fay dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Fay fails with a takedown attempt.
Ninja dives in and grabs Fay's left leg, looking for a takedown. Fay pushes down on Ninja's head and hops out.

Fay clinches.
Ninja tries to pull guard but Fay holds him up against the cage and eventually Ninja drops back down to his feet.
Fay is working Ninja over against the cage.
A nice right hand lands inside from Ninja.
Fay prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Greg Ninja. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Fay manages to break the clinch.
Greg Ninja seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ninja tries to keep at a distance but Fay has taken the fight into the clinch.

Fay pulls guard.

Ninja has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Fay to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Ninja is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Fay pulls down on the head and he's put Ninja to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Dean Fay!
