PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Kirk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin koch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Kirk might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to STAR TREK: Online - Soundtrack OST # 01 - Main Theme . Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kirk avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Kirk shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kirk showed some decent athleticism there.
Kirk is taking a breather. koch says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

koch is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Kirk jumps into side control!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

koch feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kirk has hold of koch's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and koch manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Kirk is stalling here. koch is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Kirk seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and koch has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Kirk. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kirk is looking for a triangle but koch pushes his legs off easily.
Kirk wants to sweep here but koch controlling him for the moment.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Kevin koch showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Kirk walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. koch checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Kirk really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kirk shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kirk was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

koch is trying to control Kirk's posture but Kirk avoids it.
Kirk tries to advance to mount but can't.
Kirk lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear koch down.

Kirk decides to stand up, so the ref orders koch to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to James Kirk.
I think Kirk has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
