PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Max Alvarado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miika Marski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Max Alvarado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Miika Marski!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Arvi Lind and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marski changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Alvarado tries to avoid it but Marski manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Alvarado to the ground. Alvarado escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Marski instigates a clinch.
Marski is trying to drag Alvarado to the mat but Alvarado just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Marski is trying to force a seperation but Alvarado has the dominant position.
Marski digs a right hand into Alvarado's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Alvarado's gas tank.
Alvarado wants to break the clinch but can't.

Marski tightens his grip and picks Alvarado up, before dumping him to the ground. Alvarado manages to land in guard.
Alvarado pulls Marski in to control the position.
Alvarado keeping moving, preventing Marski from controlling successfully.
Alvarado manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Marski manages to get himself to full guard.
Marski has control of Alvarado's left arm, preventing Alvarado from doing any damage.
Alvarado would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Marski working a defensive guard but Alvarado manages to pass into side control anyway.
Marski is looking to regain half guard here but Alvarado keeps moving and retains side control.
Marski really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alvarado. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Alvarado creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Marski sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Marski tries to buck Alvarado off but Alvarado is having none of it.
Marski is not content to let Alvarado control the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Marski fails with the takedown.
Max Alvarado has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Miika Marski.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Marski fails to land with a series of punches.
Marski shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Alvarado as he avoids it easily.
Marski takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Marski has Alvarado up against the cage in a clinch.

Marski jumps guard and drags Alvarado to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Alvarado gets to his feet - Marski follows without any prompting.
Marski looks gassed!
Alvarado dodges the punch combination from Marski.
Marski keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Marski has his takedown stuffed
and Alvarado counters with a nice uppercut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alvarado lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Marski at a distance.
Alvarado is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Alvarado dives in and grabs Marski's left leg, looking for a takedown. Marski pushes down on Alvarado's head and hops out.
Marski displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Alvarado.
Alvarado fails to land the takedown.
Marski has a takedown stuffed.
Marski doesn't manage to clinch there - Alvarado circles away.
Alvarado loads up on a big right hand but Marski slips the punch.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Marski.

Alvarado is looking to reverse the position.
Marski just content to control the position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Alvarado is trying to control Marski's posture but Marski avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Miika Marski will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Marski closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Marski lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alvarado is looking to stand up but Marski isn't so interested in that idea.
Marski looking to sit in guard and control but Alvarado gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Alvarado won't allow Marski to sweep him here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Alvarado decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Marski, up you get!

Marski shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Marski thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Alvarado to regain full guard.
Marski wants to pass the guard but Alvarado is keeping the position.

Marski looking to sit in guard and control but Alvarado gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Marski pulls Alvarado in close to his closed guard and prevents Alvarado from doing any damage or advancing position.

Marski wants to stand and escape but Alvarado is having none of it.
Marski can't keep his opponent in guard - Alvarado advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Alvarado avoids the attempt from Marski to control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Marski can do anything to dispel that myth.
Marski wants to try and get back to his feet.
Marski looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Marski tries to break free.
Alvarado struggling to land strikes to the head as Marski covers up.
Marski rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Alvarado is pressing down on Marski's thigh, looking to free his foot. Marski is holding on for now.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Marski keeps the fight on the outside.
Alvarado lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Marski circles away quickly and effectively.

and Marski moves into the clinch.

Alvarado is fighting off a takedown attempt but Marski is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Alvarado to the mat. Alvarado regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Miika Marski showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Marski changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Alvarado tries to avoid it but Marski manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Alvarado to the ground. Alvarado escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Marski shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Alvarado as he jumps to the side.
Alvarado defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Marski.
Max Alvarado has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Miika Marski.
Alvarado throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Marski's waist but Marski gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Alvarado off to one side.
Alvarado lands with a good body shot.
The fight stays on the outside here - Marski looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Alvarado is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alvarado closes the distance and pushes Marski back into the cage.

A short body shot lands from Marski as the two fighters clinch.
Marski jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Alvarado walks away with a smile on his face. Marski gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
No luck for Marski with that takedown attempt.
Alvarado ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Marski tries to clinch but Alvarado moves out of range.

Alvarado moves into the clinch successfully.
Marski fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Marski is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Alvarado gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Alvarado is looking to break free of the clinch but Marski has double underhooks.
Alvarado tries a knee to the head but Marski blocks it.
Marski wants a takedown but no success here.

Marski has hold of one of Alvarado's legs. Alvarado is fighting the takedown attempt but Marski gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Alvarado is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Alvarado leaves Marski with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Marski tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Alvarado presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Miika Marski has got the better of the ground game so far.

Max Alvarado has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Miika Marski is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Marski tries to hold on but Alvarado postures up.

Max Alvarado showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Marski has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
