PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Heath Ledger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sim Sang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sim Sang will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Heath Ledger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sim Sang!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ledger checks a low kick from Sang.
Ledger changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sang tries to avoid it but Ledger manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sang to the ground. Sang escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sim Sang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ledger tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sang sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ledger somewhat.
Sang is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Sang works over Ledger's head and body with a nice combination.

Sang gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ledger to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Ledger is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ledger decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sang, up you get!
Sang scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Sang tries for a takedown but Ledger circles away easily

and Ledger counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Ledger missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Sang wants to control but Ledger is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Ledger trying to mount his opponent but Sang defends it.

Ledger is working for a submission of some sort.
Ledger is breathing heavily.
Sang is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Ledger is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Sang wants to control but Ledger is keeping busy.
Sang on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Horrible takedown by Ledger or perhaps it was just good defense by Sang which made him look bad.

and Ledger counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Ledger is looking for a kimura here.
Ledger has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Sang makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sang.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sang is trying to keep Ledger in close.

Sang is looking for a triangle but Ledger pushes his legs off easily.
Ledger stopping the sweep attempt from Sang.
Ledger trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Sang looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Ledger puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Ledger content to control rather than advance.

Ledger decides to return to a standing position.
Sang uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ledger.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Sang connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Sang misses with a wild combination.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Ledger.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Ledger is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sang defends well.
Heath Ledger overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ledger pulls Sang in close to his closed guard and prevents Sang from doing any damage or advancing position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sang wants to control from the top but Ledger keeps moving.

Ledger pushes Sang off and scrambles back to his feet.
Ledger fails to land the takedown.
Sang lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Ledger closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sang circles away.
Sang throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ledger.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sang misses with a body shot

and Ledger counters with a takedown into side control.

Ledger stands up and beckons Sang to his feet.
Ledger tries to close the distance and clinch but Sang swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sang lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Sang avoids the head kick by Ledger.
Sang checks a leg kick.
Sang throws a right hand that Ledger ducks under and follows up with a left that Ledger also avoids with ease.
A combination from Sang does no damage.
Ledger shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sang pinned against the cage. Sang gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Heath Ledger. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ledger shoots for a double leg takedown but Sang sprawls well. He's pushed Ledger's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Ledger fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Ledger closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Ledger is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Sang gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Ledger presses Sang against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Ledger keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Sang's efforts to push away.
Sang tries to pull guard but Ledger holds him up against the cage and eventually Sang drops back down to his feet.

Ledger's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Sang tries to break the clinch but Ledger is controlling the position.
Ledger with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Ledger escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ledger dodges the punch combination from Sang.
Ledger circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sang looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Ledger closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Ledger decides to stand back up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Sang closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ledger circles away.
Sang tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ledger paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Heath Ledger is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ledger.
Ledger shoots in for a takedown but Sang shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

and Ledger counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Sang is lucky that one didn't land flush.

and Sang counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Ledger decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Ledger looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sang with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Sang trying to control but Ledger postures up.
Ledger moves into full mount! Sang won't be happy about that!

Sang tries to improve his position but Ledger has taken his back! Ledger has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Sang tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Ledger pushes Sang away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
