PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jr Seau (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chen Chong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jr Seau!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chen Chong!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Thiago Cunha and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Seau scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Chong is looking to regain half guard here but Seau keeps moving and retains side control.
Seau wants to stand but Chong is controlling his arm.

Seau tries for a kimura but Chong is defending well.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Chong sneaks back into half guard.
Chong controlling the position well.
Chong moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Seau wants to get up but he can't break Chong's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Chong has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Seau wants to pass the guard but Chong is keeping the position.

Seau working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Chong pulls Seau in close to prevent any damage.
Chong bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Seau's guard.

Despite being in the dominant position, Chen Chong just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Seau shoots for a double leg takedown but Chong sprawls well. He's pushed Seau's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Seau fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Chong fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Chong throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Chong looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Chong closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Seau fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Chong tries to close the distance and clinch up but Seau swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Seau moves nicely into side control.

Chong is trying to control Seau's posture but Seau avoids it.
Chong manages to get back to half guard.
Seau is keen to just control but Chong is a slippery customer.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Chong tries to clinch there but Seau circles away.
A looping hook to the body misses from Seau. Chong does a little dance to reset his feet.

Chong throws a leg kick but Seau sees it coming and moves out of range.

Seau closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Chong did well to prevent Seau getting side control.

Seau is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Chong is just riding it out for now. Seau eventually gives up the hold.
Chong has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Seau is working away from the top position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jr Seau will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Chong tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Chong misses with a looping left.
Chong misses with a wild combination.
Chong tries to clinch up.
Seau lands a head shot.
Seau will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Seau closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Chong can't do much from the bottom here.
Seau in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Chong wants to control but Seau postures up.
Seau landing a few strikes.
Chong tries to bench press Seau off him but Seau keeps the position.
Seau prevents Chong from escaping the position.
Seau is looking to take a break and control but Chong is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Seau is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Chong has escaped the position, nice work there.
Chong manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Seau postures up in Chong's guard and throws a big left but Chong blocks it.

Seau has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Seau drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Chong dives on top into guard.
Chong is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Jr Seau overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Let's hope that Chong has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Seau working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Chong doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Chong manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Seau thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Chong keeping full guard, as Seau tries to pass.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Seau scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Seau avoids a punch combination nicely.
Jr Seau is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Seau counters with a straight right hand.
No joy there for Chong, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Chen Chong is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Chong doesn't manage to clinch there - Seau circles away.
Seau looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Chong paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Seau shoots for a double leg takedown but Chong sprawls well. He's pushed Seau's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Seau holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Chong is trying to break the clinch but Seau is controlling him.
Chong goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Chong is leaning against Seau and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

Chong tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Seau's elbow.

Chong on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Chen Chong has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Seau pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Seau looks for a takedown but Chong sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jr Seau. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chong thows a left - swing and a miss!
Seau bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Chong in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.
Chong loads up on a big right hand but Seau slips the punch.

Seau moves into the clinch.
A short body shot lands from Chong as the two fighters clinch.

Seau escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Chong tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Seau avoids it.

Chong breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Chong closes the distance but Seau moves to the side

and Seau counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Seau prevents Chong from improving his position.
Chong is trying to control but can't.
Chong flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Seau wants to free his trapped foot but Chong is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Chong trying to control but Seau postures up.
Chong keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Chong is controlling Seau's trapped leg to prevent Seau from advancing to side control.
Seau is keen to just control but Chong is a slippery customer.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jr Seau showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Seau has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
