The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Galvao closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Galvao goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, tope rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Galvao's guard! Nice work there by tope!
tope working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Galvao wants to stand but tope is controlling the position.
tope trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
tope postures up and lands a big shot to Galvao's brow.
tope trying to control the position from guard on top but Galvao is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
tope stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Galvao swivels though and keeps the full guard.
tope looking to sit in guard and control but Galvao gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
tope keeping moving, preventing Galvao from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Galvao throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as tope works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Galvao working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of tope's head.

Galvao drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and tope dives on top into guard.
Galvao looking to hit a scissor sweep but tope is one step ahead there.
tope passes easily into side control. Nice work.
tope laying and praying for a moment but Galvao takes advantage and regains half guard.
