Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sean Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Malone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sean Penn has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Sean Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Sam Malone!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Glass and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malone tries to close the distance and clinch but Penn swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Some wild striking there from Penn.
Penn throws a right hand that Malone ducks under and follows up with a left that Malone also avoids with ease.

Penn pushes Malone up against the cage in a clinch.

Penn decides to pull guard.
Malone seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Malone looking to pass the guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Penn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Malone is one step ahead there.
Penn is trying to control the position but Malone postures up.

Malone seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Malone drops back looking for a leg! Penn is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Penn manages to kick Malone off! Malone jumps back into Penn's guard.
Malone won't allow Penn to get back to his feet.
Malone stays in close to Penn's body and controls the position.
Penn manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Penn trying to control but Malone is having none of it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Malone bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Malone gets to his feet - Penn follows without any prompting.
Malone tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Penn counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Horrible takedown by Penn or perhaps it was just good defense by Malone which made him look bad.
Penn is breathing heavily.

Penn is working to avoid the ground and pound but Malone connects with a decent elbow.

Malone tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
I looks like Malone might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Malone's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Malone lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Malone tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Malone is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Penn is surviving well by controlling Malone's body position as best he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Malone dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Malone avoids a kick to the body.
Malone shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Penn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Malone tries to avoid it but Penn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Malone to the ground. Malone escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Malone dodges the punch combination from Penn.

Malone changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Penn looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Malone decides to stand back up. Malone steps back and let's Penn get back to his feet.
Penn misses with a takedown attempt - Malone sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sean Penn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Penn wants to get back to full guard.

Malone postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Penn to stand up.

and Malone counters with a takedown into side control.

Penn tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Malone wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Malone lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Penn hang on?
Oh Penn is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Malone controlling the pace for now.
Penn seems to have got his legs back now.
Penn is looking to get to half guard.

Malone wants to finish this one by submission but Penn is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Malone.
Penn is desperately trying to improve his position but Malone has a good base and remains in mount.
Penn tries to hold on but Malone pushes him away.
Malone lands with some strikes.
Malone prevents Penn from getting the reversal.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Penn tries to buck Malone off but he can't manage it.
Malone wants to control the pace but Penn is squirming around nicely.
Malone won't let Penn get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Sam Malone has got the better of the ground game so far.
Malone connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Malone get's back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Malone showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Sean Penn's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
