PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nick Quick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andre Fernandes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quick comes into the arena with stereoside - my ife blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Matheus Silva and Paulo Santos.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Fernandes or perhaps it was just good defense by Quick which made him look bad.
Fernandes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Quick pinned against the cage. Quick gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Fernandes moves into the clinch successfully.

Fernandes pulls guard effortlessly.

Fernandes is looking for a triangle but Quick pushes his legs off easily.

Fernandes is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Fernandes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Quick can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Fernandes looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Quick passes into half guard.
Quick will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Quick wants to stand up but Fernandes manages to regain full guard.

Fernandes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Quick is aware though and is defending well.

Fernandes utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Quick knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fernandes on the ground.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Quick wanted to stand there but Fernandes had control of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Quick drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Quick jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Fernandes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Quick doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Quick manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Quick.
Quick connects with a high kick.
A slapping body kick lands there for Quick.
Quick throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Fernandes shoots in for a double leg but Quick sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Nick Quick has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andre Fernandes.
Quick bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Fernandes's head.

Quick throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Quick lands with a slapping head kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fernandes has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Fernandes there as he acknowledges the shot.

Nick Quick is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Fernandes is still on wobbly legs! Can Quick finish him?
Quick connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Quick. Fernandes shrugs it off though.
Whack! Quick lands a heavy head kick that drops Fernandes. The ref tackles Quick to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Fernandes was done.
