PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Barney Fife (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alan Bundy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bundy is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by God Hates a Coward. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Barney Fife!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alan Bundy!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bundy scores with a crisp jab that stopped Fife in his tracks.
Bundy scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Fife leaves Bundy with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Bundy lands with an uppercut that bounces Fife off the cage and back into rage.

Fife is pressed up against the cage. Bundy has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Fife down to the mat. Fife avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Barney Fife has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alan Bundy.

Bundy throws an overhand right that lands on Fife's shoulder, as Fife tries to avoid the shot.

The fighters circling - Fife throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Fife connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Bundy shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Bundy showed some decent athleticism there.
Bundy lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Bundy tries to pass to full mount but Fife defends it.
Bundy is looking to take a break and control but Fife is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Fife is looking for a sweep. Bundy is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Bundy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fife does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Fife has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bundy is working away from the top position though.
Bundy content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Fife bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Fife fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Fife catches Bundy with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Bundy lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Fife shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Bundy fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Fife throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
A left lands for Bundy.
Bundy shoots in looking for a takedown. Fife tries to sprawl out of it but Bundy keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fife manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Alan Bundy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fife throws a solid leg kick but Bundy takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Fife.
Bundy uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Fife has time to react.
Bundy paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Bundy fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Fife manages to avoid it.

Bundy digs a right hand into Fife's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Fife's gas tank.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bundy throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Fifes head.
Bundy misses with some punches.
Bundy lands a hook to the side of the head.
Fife's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Bundy tries to work over Fife's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Bundy lands a shot to the body.

Bundy stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Bundy walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Fife checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Fife tries to clinch up but Bundy circles away and keeps his distance.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Bundy, as that shot connected.
Bundy slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Bundy ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Fife moves away.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Bundy, right into the meat.
Bundy misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Fife.
Bundy does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Fife missing with a left hand there. Bundy was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Alan Bundy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Fife looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Bundy changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Fife looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Bundy lands a nice short elbow.

Bundy is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Bundy cracks Fife with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Bundy cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Fife is trying desperately to improve position.
Barney Fife has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Fife is working hard here to advance position.
Bundy takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bundy wants to control the pace but Fife is squirming around nicely.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Bundy is landing with some decent strikes but Fife is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Well Bundy has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
