The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCannon tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Horrible takedown by McCannon or perhaps it was just good defense by Davis which made him look bad.

Davis gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Davis manages to break the clinch.
McCannon throws a leg kick that misses.
Davis takes a swing at McCannon's ribcage but misses.
McCannon throws a head kick but Davis moves out of range.

Davis shoots in and bounces McCannon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
McCannon is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Davis lands a couple of decent looking shots.
McCannon can't keep his opponent in guard - Davis advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
McCannon regains full guard. Nicely done.
McCannon has Davis pulled in close to control his posture.

Davis slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Davis tries to free his leg and advance position but McCannon is retaining full guard.

Davis is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
McCannon is looking to stand up but Davis isn't so interested in that idea.
McCannon is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Davis drops back looking for a leg! McCannon is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and McCannon manages to kick Davis off! Davis jumps back into McCannon's guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
McCannon looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Davis throws a head kick that misses.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Davis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming McCannon to the mat! McCannon manages to get full guard.
McCannon is breathing heavily.
Davis won't allow McCannon to sweep him here.
McCannon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
McCannon keeping moving, preventing Davis from controlling successfully.
Davis stops McCannon from standing up.
McCannon looking to hit a scissor sweep but Davis is one step ahead there.
Davis scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Davis slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCannon gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
McCannon is looking to get to half guard.
McCannon's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
McCannon tries to hold on but Davis pushes him away.
Davis won't let McCannon get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
McCannon can't escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Davis avoids the attempt from McCannon to control.
McCannon gets back to half guard.

McCannon kicks Davis off and gets back to his feet.
McCannon tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Davis paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Davis counters with a nice body kick.
McCannon with a body punch. A glancing blow.
McCannon throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Davis shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McCannon as he jumps to the side.
Davis throws a jab but it's blocked by McCannon.
McCannon throws a head kick but Davis moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Davis has closed the distance and engaged McCannon in a clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Davis prevents McCannon from breaking the clinch.

Davis is trying to trip McCannon. He has hold of a leg but McCannon is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Davis persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
McCannon keeping moving, preventing Davis from controlling successfully.
McCannon wants to stand up but Davis is controlling him.
Davis wants to pass the guard but McCannon is keeping the position.
McCannon wants to stand and escape but Davis is having none of it.
McCannon trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Davis stands and steps away. McCannon gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Davis misses with a double jab.
Davis fails with an attempt to clinch.
McCannon pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Davis gets a takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Davis shoots in for a double leg but McCannon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
McCannon wants to clinch
enabling Davis to counter with a crisp jab.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from McCannon, right into the meat.
McCannon throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Davis stumbling backwards into the cage! Davis bounces back off the cage towards McCannon, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! McCannon lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! McCannon celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.
