PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Mac (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abel Marco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Max Mac!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Abel Marco!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Paulsen Ambrosius and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marco clinches up with Mac and pushes him back against the cage.
Marco lands a body shot in the clinch.

Marco is trying to trip Mac. He has hold of a leg but Mac is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Marco persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Mac wants to stand and escape but Marco is having none of it.
Marco working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Mac wants to stand up but Marco is controlling him.

Mac is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Marco content to stall in guard here.
Let's hope that Marco has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Marco wants to pass the guard but Mac is keeping the position.

Mac working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Marco doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Marco manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Marco must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mac is looking for a triangle but Marco pushes his legs off easily.

Marco thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Marco postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Marco is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Marco postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mac is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Marco, into his guard.
Marco looks gassed!

Marco is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mac is aware though and is defending well.
Marco is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Mac stands up and waves to Marco to follow him.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Marco darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Mac misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Marco wants to work for an arm triangle but Mac is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Marco prevents Mac from standing back up.

Mac throws a series of punches but Marco avoids them all with ease.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Max Mac will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Mac darts in and clinches Marco up against the cage.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Mac.
Marco has Mac pressed against the cage, preventing Mac from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Marco pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mac throws a series of punches but Marco moves out of range.

Marco shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Mac is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Marco is controlling him.

Mac looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Mac is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Marco defends well.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mac can't keep his opponent in guard - Marco advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Mac is looking to escape.

Marco is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Mac has managed to free his arm - good work.
Mac wants to get back to full guard.
Mac wants to get back to his feet.

Marco is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Mac to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Marco wants to control from the top but Mac keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Marco got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mac has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Marco has managed to get both his arms back between Mac's legs - danger averted.
Marco wants to control from the top but Mac keeps moving.

Mac has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Marco is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Mac.

Marco is trying to control. Mac wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Mac moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Mac pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Marco clinches.

Marco has Mac pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Marco pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Mac tumbling to the mat - Marco dives into Mac's guard.

Marco sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mac's guard.

Marco is working for a submission of some sort.
Mac pushes Marco off looking to stand but Marco dives back in and keeps control.
Marco is looking to take a break and control but Mac is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Marco doesn't manage to clinch there - Mac circles away.

Marco fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mac catches Marco with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Marco gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mac wants to get up but he can't break Marco's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Marco is looking for a triangle but Mac pushes his legs off easily.

Mac decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Mac fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Marco sprawls well initially but Mac persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Mac postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Marco to stand up.
Marco shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mac as he avoids it easily.
Max Mac is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mac changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Marco tries to avoid it but Mac manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Marco to the ground. Marco escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Marco has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mac can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Abel Marco has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mac wants to stand but Marco has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Max Mac showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mac, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
