PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Robby Hollow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andy Babcock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Robby Hollow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Andy Babcock!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Anni Minnemäki and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hollow blocks a head kick by Babcock.
Hollow looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Hollow shoots in for a takedown but Babcock shows good takedown defense.
Babcock misses with a wild combination.
Babcock ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
A solid body kick from Babcock.

Babcock shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hollow's guard.
Babcock must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Babcock gets to his feet. Hollow looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Babcock scores a takedown into full mount!
Babcock is landing with some decent strikes but Hollow is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Babcock controlling the position easily from mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Babcock scores with a couple of good head shots there.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hollow wants to hold on but Babcock pushes him away.

Hollow is trying desperately to improve position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hollow can't escape the position.

Babcock jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Hollow manages to avoid the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Babcock has closed the distance and engaged Hollow in a clinch.

Babcock manages to pull guard.
Babcock really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hollow. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Babcock lands an upkick as Hollow stands over him.

Babcock had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hollow defends it easily.
Babcock is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hollow is looking to stand up but Babcock won't let him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Babcock looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Babcock has his feet on Hollow's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Babcock shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Hollow regains full guard. Nicely done.
Babcock tries to free his leg and advance position but Hollow is retaining full guard.

Hollow escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Babcock gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hollow lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Babcock!

Babcock tries to lock up and control but Hollow gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Hollow tries to control but Babcock wriggling away.
Babcock holds on to Hollow as tight as he can, avoiding damage.

Hollow is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Babcock to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Babcock shrugs it off.

Babcock working to try and regain half guard.
Babcock taking shots to the head.
Hollow really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Babcock wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Hollow.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hollow trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Andy Babcock has got the better of the ground game so far.
Babcock tries to hold on but Hollow pushes him away.
Hollow can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Babcock is looking to escape.
Babcock tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hollow avoids the attempt from Babcock to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andy Babcock showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Babcock drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Babcock thows a big elbow that misses.

Hollow is looking for a triangle here but Babcock uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Babcock is trying to get an arm triangle but Hollow is defending well.
Hollow is looking to reverse the position.

Hollow can't do much from the bottom here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hollow is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Hollow takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Babcock lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Hollow down.
Hollow tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Babcock wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hollow keeps working.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
A head kick misses from Babcock.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Babcock stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Hollow.

Babcock closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Babcock lands in his opponent's guard.
Hollow utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Hollow is trying to control the position but Babcock postures up.
Babcock looking to pass the guard.
Babcock stopping the sweep attempt from Hollow.

Babcock wants to pass the guard but Hollow is keeping the position.
Hollow being controlled here, momentarily.
Hollow keeping moving, preventing Babcock from controlling successfully.
Hollow controls Babcock momentarily but Babcock frees himself.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Babcock swinging wildly here.

Babcock shoots in and bounces Hollow off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Babcock throws and elbow that misses. Hollow uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Babcock's guard. Nice move by Hollow!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hollow wants to pass the guard but Babcock is keeping the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Andy Babcock comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Babcock has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
