PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Metcalf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Back Pack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Metcalf kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is "Highway to the Danger Zone," by Kenny Loggins. Mike Metcalf could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Back Pack's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Metcalf!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Back Pack!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Felipe Paraventi and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pack swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Metcalf moves into the clinch.
Pack misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Pack jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Metcalf walks away with a smile on his face. Pack gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Pack keeps the fight on the outside.
Pack keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Pack displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Metcalf throws out the jab.
Metcalf looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pack is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Metcalf's half guard.
Metcalf wants to improve his position but Pack is controlling well.
Pack looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Metcalf won't allow Pack to pass to mount.
Metcalf on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Metcalf tries to get out of the position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Pack in particular looking to stall.

Metcalf tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Pack has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Pack's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Metcalf is working to get back to half guard.

I looks like Pack might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Metcalf sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Metcalf wants to get back to full guard.
Pack is controlling the pace.
Pack landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Pack seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Pack slips a nice elbow through Metcalf's hands, connecting with Metcalf's forehead.
Metcalf is looking for a sweep. Pack is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Metcalf is working hard here to advance position.
Metcalf has a hand on Pack's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Pack takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Pack throws a hook but Metcalf avoids it easily.

and Pack counters with a three punch combo that has Metcalf backing up. Metcalf nods at Pack to acknowledge the strikes.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pack is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Metcalf.

Pack closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Metcalf did well to prevent Pack getting side control.

Pack looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Metcalf with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Pack is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Metcalf is not content to let Pack control the position.
Metcalf tries to roll over but Pack keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pack with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Pack is just content to waste time from the top position. Metcalf takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Despite being in the dominant position, Back Pack just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Metcalf is in all sorts of trouble here.

Back Pack showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Metcalf throws a knee to the head but misses.

Pack gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Metcalf regains guard.
Mike Metcalf has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Pack throws and elbow that misses. Metcalf uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Pack's guard. Nice move by Metcalf!
Metcalf throws a strike but Pack rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Pack stays in close to Metcalf's body and controls the position.

Pack is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Pack trying to control but Metcalf is working from the bottom.
Pack working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Pack lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Metcalf throws his legs up looking for a submission but Pack uses it to pass to side control.
Metcalf tries to buck Pack off but Pack is having none of it.
Metcalf is working to avoid the ground and pound but Pack connects with a decent elbow.

And that's the end of the fight!
Back Pack comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Pack winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
