PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dwight Grant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lutalo Hajjar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Grant might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Beanie (Mack B****). Lutalo Hajjar has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dwight Grant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lutalo Hajjar!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Dillan Fox and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grant leaves Hajjar with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Grant lands a lovely overhand right.
Hajjar shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Grant throws a sloppy head kick and Hajjar moves out of range easily.
Grant throws a body punch but Hajjar moves out of range.
Grant lands with a shot to the body.
Hajjar tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Grant paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hajjar shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Grant as he avoids it easily.
Dwight Grant has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lutalo Hajjar.
No luck for Hajjar with that takedown attempt.
Grant fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hajjar avoids it really well and circles away.
Grant throws a solid leg kick but Hajjar takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Grant.
Hajjar avoids the head kick by Grant.

Grant gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hajjar to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Grant has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Hajjar off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Grant bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hajjar is looking for a sweep.

Grant seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hajjar for as long as he can get away with.

Hajjar parries the strikes from Grant easily there. Grant is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Hajjar to escape.
Hajjar regains half guard.
Hajjar wants to control but Grant is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Hajjar is trying to get back to full guard.
Hajjar is looking to control Grant's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hajjar avoid being mounted?
Hajjar is looking to improve his position.
Hajjar keeping hold of Grant's head, controlling as best he can.

Hajjar regains full guard. Nicely done.
Grant won't allow Hajjar to sweep him here.
Grant tries to free his leg and advance position but Hajjar is retaining full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hajjar slips a jab and a cross from Grant.
Grant connects with a nice looking jab.

Grant changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hajjar looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Grant gets to mount! Hajjar was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Grant scoring with strikes but Hajjar is staying in there.
Hajjar tries to lock up and control but Grant gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Grant cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Hajjar is wriggling around trying to escape.
Hajjar sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dwight Grant dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Grant throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Grant looks to land a right hand but Hajjar moved out of range.
Grant misses with a double jab.
Grant throws a right and a left that both miss.
Hajjar keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Grant lands with a hook. Hajjar tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Grant throws a jab but it's blocked by Hajjar.
A combination from Grant does no damage.
Dwight Grant is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

You can see the frustration on Grant's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Grant is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Hajjar throws a strike aimed at the side of Grant's head but Grant avoids it well.
The ground and pound from Hajjar seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Hajjar wants to control but Grant is keeping him busy.
Hajjar might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Grant kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Hajjar connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Grant some visible discomfort.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hajjar creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Grant sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Hajjar dodges the punch combination from Grant.
Grant avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Grant doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Hajjar finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hajjar lands a nice shot to the body.
Hajjar fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hajjar looks for a takedown but Grant sprawls well.

Hajjar not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Hajjar trying to control but Grant is working from the bottom.
Hajjar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Grant swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Lutalo Hajjar has got the better of the ground game so far.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Grant counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Lutalo Hajjar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Grant throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Hajjar doesn't succeed with the takedown

BOOM! Grant connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Hajjar tries to hold on but Grant postures up.
Grant lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Grant avoids the attempt from Hajjar to control.
Hajjar is looking to get to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dwight Grant showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Grant has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
