PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brosif Stalin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Buhawi Jack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stalin comes into the arena with Welcome to Jamrock - Damian Marley blaring out of the sound system. Jack is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by enter sandman. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brosif Stalin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Buhawi Jack!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stalin misses with a few strikes there.

Stalin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Stalin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Jack really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Stalin is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Jack gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Stalin counters with a slapping leg kick.

Jack scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jack tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Jack passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Stalin!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stalin is in a horrible position here. Jack smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Jack wants to get back to his feet but Stalin is holding on tight.

Jack has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Jack decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
An inside leg kick lands from Stalin.
Jack throws a hook but Stalin blocks it.
Stalin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Stalin's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Stalin duly obliges.

Stalin shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Jack napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Stalin lands an elbow.

Stalin has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Stalin bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stalin stands up and beckons Jack to his feet.

Jack closes the distance and pushes Stalin back into the cage.

Stalin manages to break the clinch.
Jack checks a low kick from Stalin.
Stalin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Stalin misses with a two punch combination.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jack has his takedown stuffed
and Stalin makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Brosif Stalin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Buhawi Jack.

Stalin shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Jack is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Stalin is controlling him.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Stalin stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Jack looks gassed!
Stalin darts in trying to clinch

and Jack counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Stalin's guard now.
Stalin wants to stand up but Jack is controlling him.
Stalin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Jack wants to get back to his feet.

Jack pushes Stalin off and scrambles back to his feet.
Brosif Stalin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Stalin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Stalin prevents Jack from improving his position.

Stalin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Jack kicks off Stalin and gets to his feet.
Jack looks for a takedown but Stalin sprawls well.
Stalin throws a right hand that Jack ducks under and follows up with a left that Jack also avoids with ease.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stalin fails with the takedown

and Jack counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Stalin!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Brosif Stalin will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Stalin tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jack was well out of range. Poor timing from Stalin.

Stalin looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Jack!

Stalin wants to finish this one by submission but Jack is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Stalin.
Stalin trying to control but Jack is having none of it.

Stalin is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Jack lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Stalin lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Stalin throws a series of punches but Jack moves out of range.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jack shoots and misses

and Stalin counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jack won't be happy with that.

Stalin decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Stalin doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Jack counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Jack is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Stalin has managed to free his arm - good work.

Jack is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Stalin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Jack.

Stalin kicks Jack off and gets back to his feet.
Stalin lands a head kick. Jack smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

and Stalin counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Jack thinking.

and Jack counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Stalin's guard now.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jack drops back looking for a leg! Stalin is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Stalin manages to kick Jack off! Jack jumps back into Stalin's guard.

Stalin pushes Jack off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Jack uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Stalin.

Jack not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Stalin tries to roll over but Jack keeps him under control.

Jack is looking for a kimura here.

Jack looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Stalin is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Jack is working for a submission of some sort.
Stalin tries to get to full guard but Jack has control of the leg.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Stalin chopping away at his opponent's legs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Buhawi Jack will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Stalin shoots for a double leg takedown but Jack sprawls well. He's pushed Stalin's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jack is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Stalin.

Stalin fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jack, pushing him back against the cage.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brosif Stalin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jack fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Jack is pressed up against the cage. Stalin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Jack down to the mat. Jack avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Brosif Stalin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jack shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Stalin as he jumps to the side.
Stalin lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Stalin stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Stalin misses with a takedown
and Stalin takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Stalin is working an open guard so Jack takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Stalin has Jack up against the cage in a clinch.
Stalin has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Stalin misses with a knee to the head.
Jack tries to break free but Stalin pushes him back against the cage.
Jack jumps guard but Stalin stands there with Jack around his waist. Jack gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Stalin has Jack pressed against the cage, preventing Jack from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Stalin gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
A lazy left from Stalin finds it's target.

Stalin lands with an uppercut that bounces Jack off the cage and back into rage.
Jack fails with a takedown attempt.
Stalin throws a combination that misses

and Jack counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Stalin!
Stalin tries to reverse the position but Jack maintains control.

Jack has control of Stalin's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Stalin regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Stalin is working to get back to half guard.

Jack is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Stalin has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Jack working for a submission but Stalin is keeping him at bay.
Stalin wants to hold on but Jack pushes him away.

Jack scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Stalin is trying to escape the mount.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Buhawi Jack comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jack has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
