PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cain Pancho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mogul Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cain Pancho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mogul Khan!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Bruno Hogan and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan keeps the fight on the outside.

Pancho shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Khan is trying to defend but Pancho finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Pancho is trying to control. Khan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Pancho is trying to control the action in half guard but Khan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Pancho stops Khan from getting back to his feet.
Khan keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Khan wants to get back to full guard but Pancho has passed into side control.

Khan is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Pancho throwing strikes here but Khan is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Pancho sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Pancho trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Pancho looking for a guillotine from mount but Khan is having none of it.
Khan tries to reverse the position but Pancho maintains control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Pancho thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Pancho misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Khan is squirming around, avoiding Pancho's attempts to control the action.
Khan tries to reverse the position but Pancho maintains control.

Pancho wants to control the pace but Khan is squirming around nicely.
Pancho throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Khan because Pancho loaded up on that one.
Khan wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Pancho.

Pancho is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Khan has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Pancho is breathing heavily.
Pancho tries to control but Khan wriggling away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Khan is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pancho looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Pancho wants to control the pace but Khan is squirming around nicely.
Khan can't escape the position.
Pancho really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Khan wants to hold on but Pancho pushes him away.
Pancho can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Khan is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cain Pancho dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Khan darts in and clinches Pancho up against the cage.
Khan jumps guard but Pancho stands there with Khan around his waist. Khan gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Khan is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Khan is trying to drag Pancho to the mat but Pancho just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Cain Pancho has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mogul Khan.

Khan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Pancho gets a takedown into half guard.
Khan wants to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Pancho stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Pancho cracks Khan with an open hand slap.

Khan clinches with his opponent.

Khan has picked Pancho up - he's going for a ride! Khan dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khan prevents Pancho from improving his position.
Pancho moves into full guard.

Pancho has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Khan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Pancho is trying to control the position but Khan postures up.
Pancho thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Khan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pancho has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Khan has managed to get both his arms back between Pancho's legs - danger averted.
Pancho is trying to control the position but Khan postures up.

Khan has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Pancho is proving hard to escape from.
Khan postures up.
Khan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Pancho tries to bum rush Khan with a series of wild strikes but Khan uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Pancho shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Khan as he avoids it easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Khan.
Khan swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cain Pancho is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Khan throws a combination that misses

and Pancho counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Pancho.
Khan is looking to control Pancho's arms but Pancho gets an underhook and turns him. Now Khan has his back to the cage.
Pancho jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Khan walks away with a smile on his face. Pancho gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Pancho takes a head kick and keeps coming.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Khan rushes Pancho and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Pancho is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Khan tries a body shot but Pancho blocks it.

Khan has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Pancho uses from the top position.
Pancho won't allow Khan to sweep him here.
Khan is looking to stand back up but Pancho counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Khan.

Pancho is working for a submission of some sort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cain Pancho dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Khan has his takedown stuffed

and Pancho counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Khan looking to control.
Pancho postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Khan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Pancho stands and steps away. Khan gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Pancho closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Khan to the mat! Khan manages to get full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Pancho trying to control but Khan is working from the bottom.
Pancho is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Khan is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Khan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pancho is one step ahead there.
Pancho trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pancho thows a big elbow that misses.
Pancho missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Khan keeping full guard, as Pancho tries to pass.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Khan is looking to clinch.
A looping hook to the body misses from Khan. Pancho does a little dance to reset his feet.
Khan doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Pancho counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pancho sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Khan is trying to control the position but Pancho postures up.
Khan being controlled here, momentarily.
Pancho trying to control but Khan is working from the bottom.
Khan striking off his back but it's not causing Pancho any problems.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Cain Pancho overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Pancho throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Khan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Pancho trying to control the position from guard on top but Khan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Khan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pancho. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Khan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Pancho to the mat! Pancho manages to get full guard.
Khan postures up.
Pancho tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Pancho controls Khan momentarily but Khan frees himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cain Pancho showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pancho, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
