PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brian Wilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stevie Midgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Midgar has chosen I am a Real American - Rick Derringer as his entrance music. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brian Wilson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stevie Midgar!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Steve Montenegro and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Midgar swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Midgar misses with a series of wild punches.
Midgar rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Wilson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Wilson gets a takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Wilson seems content to control.

Wilson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Midgar is just riding it out for now. Wilson eventually gives up the hold.
Midgar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wilson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Wilson escapes and gets back to his feet.

Wilson shoots in and bounces Midgar off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Wilson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Midgar swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Midgar bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wilson's guard.

Wilson is looking for a triangle but Midgar pushes his legs off easily.

Wilson doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Wilson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Midgar can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Midgar must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Wilson is looking for a triangle but Midgar pushes his legs off easily.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Midgar leaves Wilson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Midgar wants to control but Wilson is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Midgar keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Wilson looks to land a combination but Midgar avoids it well.
Wilson fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brian Wilson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Wilson counters with a single leg into guard. Midgar didn't expect that.

Midgar throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Midgar catches Wilson with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Wilson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wilson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Wilson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Midgar's guard.
Brian Wilson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Midgar lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

and Wilson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Midgar won't be happy with that.

Wilson misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Midgar is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Wilson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Midgar can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Brian Wilson dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Wilson dodges the punch combination from Midgar.
Midgar throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Wilson on the side of the head.
Wilson takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Midgar looks to land a combination but Wilson avoids it well.
Midgar moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Wilson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Midgar moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Wilson stands and throws Midgar's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Wilson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Midgar is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Midgar is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Wilson off and has taken his back!

Midgar wants to control but Wilson is keeping busy.

Midgar looking to break Wilson's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Wilson remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Midgar will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Brian Wilson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wilson wants to control from the top but Midgar keeps moving.

Wilson is stalling in the full guard.
Wilson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Brian Wilson.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wilson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
