PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Cottoneye Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Sharpe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe comes into the arena with Cottoneye Joe blaring out of the sound system. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Anderson Sharpe was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cottoneye Joe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anderson Sharpe!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Lou da Vinci and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sharpe uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Joe.
Sharpe throws a head kick that Joe semi-blocks.


It looks like Cottoneye Joe has been cut.
Nice defenses there by Joe.
Sharpe connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Sharpe defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Joe.
Joe throws a series of punches but Sharpe avoids them all with ease.
Joe tries to close the distance and clinch but Sharpe swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sharpe moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
A big left from Sharpe misses.
Sharpe throws a nice head kick!
Sharpe connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.


Joe is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sharpe takes one on the chin but seems OK.


It looks like Anderson Sharpe has been cut.

Joe throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Sharpe tumbling to the canvas!


Sharpe is rocked!

Sharpe is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Sharpe is still in real trouble! Can Joe finish him?
Sharpe is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Sharpe has momentary wrist control but Joe slips an elbow through the middle.
Joe passes Sharpe's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Sharpe seems to have recovered his senses.
Joe has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Sharpe bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Joe looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Joe is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Joe might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Joe has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sharpe can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Sharpe is looking to work some ground and pound but Joe has wrist control.
Sharpe working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Sharpe won't allow Joe to get back to his feet.
Sharpe won't allow Joe to sweep him here.

Sharpe has gone for a leg lock! Joe slips out almost immediately though and dives into Sharpe's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sharpe isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Joe stacks Sharpe on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Joe!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sharpe looks gassed!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Joe trying to control the position but Sharpe is working away.
Joe is putting a hurting on Sharpe here, landing some big shots from side control.
Joe working the body and head with strikes.
Joe avoids the strikes from the bottom by Sharpe.

Joe is trying to get an arm triangle but Sharpe is defending well.
Joe lands an elbow.
Joe connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Sharpe some visible discomfort.
Sharpe is looking to regain half guard here but Joe keeps moving and retains side control.
Sharpe gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sharpe wants to get back to full guard.
Joe content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Sharpe is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Joe scores with a couple of nice shots.
Joe takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Joe scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Joe lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Joe prevents Sharpe from improving his position.
Joe working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Joe is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Sharpe is looking to improve his position.
Sharpe is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Joe scores with a couple of nice shots.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sharpe on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Joe lands strikes from half guard.
Sharpe has hold of Joe's hands but Joe slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Sharpe moves into full guard.

Sharpe looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Joe trying to control the position from guard on top but Sharpe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sharpe throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Joe connects with a couple of short punches.
Sharpe preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Joe passes into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sharpe is not content to let Joe control the position.
Joe drops an elbow to the side of Sharpe's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cottoneye Joe dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Joe fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sharpe avoids it really well and circles away.
Sharpe misses with a few strikes there.
Joe connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Sharpe tumbling to the canvas! Joe pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Sharpe was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:17 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Cottoneye Joe!
