Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Georges Stpierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Waldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Georges Stpierre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Waldo!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Reed Andrews and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stpierre closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Waldo holding on.
Stpierre postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Waldo manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Stpierre missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Stpierre is looking to take a break and control but Waldo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Stpierre moves into full mount! Waldo won't be happy about that!
Waldo is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Stpierre moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Waldo has worked his arm free - good work by Waldo!
Waldo tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Stpierre looks up at the clock and then as Waldo takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Stpierre smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Waldo manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Stpierre wants to improve his position but Waldo is controlling well.
Stpierre is trying to control but can't.
Stpierre tries to get to full guard but Waldo has control of the leg.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nice takedown defense from Waldo. No joy for Stpierre on that attempt.
Stpierre is breathing heavily.
Waldo closes the distance and clinches up with Stpierre, looking for a takedown. Waldo pushes Stpierre against the cage but Stpierre circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Waldo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Stpierre knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Waldo working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Stpierre looks to move to half guard but instead Waldo has passed into mount! Damn!
Stpierre is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Waldo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Waldo showed some decent athleticism there.
Stpierre wants to get back to full guard.
Stpierre trying to control from the bottom.
Stpierre misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Waldo keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Stpierre slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Stpierre has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Waldo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Stpierre can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Waldo controls the pace.

Waldo is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Stpierre is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Stpierre has escaped and now he's on top!
Waldo is pulling down on Stpierre's head. It's preventing any offense from Stpierre, at least for the moment.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Stpierre passes into half guard.
Waldo is looking to control Stpierre's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Waldo avoid being mounted?

Stpierre perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Stpierre is keen to just control but Waldo is a slippery customer.

Stpierre is stalling here. Waldo is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Stpierre seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Waldo has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stpierre wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Waldo gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Stpierre stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Waldo swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Waldo counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stpierre is pressed up against the cage. Waldo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Stpierre down to the mat. Stpierre avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Stpierre gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Waldo decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Stpierre's guard.

Chris Waldo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Waldo shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Waldo was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Waldo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Waldo is not content to let Stpierre control the position.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Stpierre connects with a nice short shot to Waldo's temple.

Stpierre throws a sloppy strike and Waldo uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Waldo has ended up in Stpierre's guard.
Stpierre is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Waldo wants to get back to his feet.

Stpierre decides to return to a standing position.
Georges Stpierre has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Waldo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Stpierre's guard.

Chris Waldo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Waldo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
