The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter avoids the head kick by Douglas.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Carter crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Douglas - the referee stops the clock and Carter gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Douglas. Carter manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Douglas uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Carter.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Douglas is looking to control Carter's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Douglas avoid being mounted?

Douglas makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Douglas.
Carter's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Carter gets to his feet - Douglas follows without any prompting.
Carter shoots in but Douglas avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Douglas throws a head kick that misses.
Carter will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Carter tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Carter's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Douglas is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Carter controlling the pace for now.
Carter has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Douglas can do anything to dispel that myth.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jerome Carter just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Douglas scoring well with a low kick there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Douglas counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Carter is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Carter cracks Douglas with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Douglas tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Carter pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Douglas is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
