Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, John Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Jason Brinehall!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, William Gold and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brinehall tries to score a power double leg takedown but Smith sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Brinehall somewhat.
Smith throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Brinehall gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Smith to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Smith is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Smith trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Brinehall is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Smith defends well.
Brinehall is looking to sweep but instead, Smith has passed into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith wants to control but Brinehall is keeping him busy.

Smith is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Brinehall sees it coming and defends easily.

Smith seems to be working for a kimura but Brinehall defends the submission attempt.
Brinehall pushes Smith off but Smith dives into side control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Smith trying to control the position but Brinehall is working away.

Smith is trying to get an arm triangle but Brinehall is defending well.

Smith looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith is looking to take a break and control but Brinehall is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Brinehall is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Smith's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Smith is trying to work for a kimura but Brinehall is defending well.

Smith seems to be looking for submissions.
Brinehall is not content to let Smith control the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Smith wants to pass to mount but Brinehall is defending the position.
Smith looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Smith is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Brinehall defends it well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Brinehall is trying to maintain the position but Smith is very close to passing his half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Smith dominated that round.

Smith shoots in and bounces Brinehall off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Brinehall wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Smith is now in half guard.
Smith prevents Brinehall from standing back up.

Smith is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Brinehall doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Smith.
Smith wants to free his trapped foot but Brinehall is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Smith looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Brinehall pushes Smith off looking to stand but Smith dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smith with the ground and pound but Brinehall uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Smith drops back looking for a leg! Brinehall is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Brinehall manages to kick Smith off! Smith jumps back into Brinehall's guard.
Smith pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Brinehall is keeping the position for now.

Smith gets to his feet. Brinehall looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brinehall tries to clinch up.
Brinehall with a poor takedown

and Smith counters with a takedown into side control.

Smith thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Brinehall really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Brinehall is not content to let Smith control the position.
Smith has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Smith throwing strikes here but Brinehall is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Smith is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Brinehall doesn't manage to clinch there - Smith circles away.
Jason Brinehall is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Brinehall misses with a takedown

and Smith counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Brinehall's guard now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smith looking to sit in guard and control but Brinehall gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Brinehall wanted to stand there but Smith had control of the position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Smith dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Smith circles away from the clinch attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Brinehall looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Brinehall moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Brinehall fails with an attempt to clinch.

Smith shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Smith showed some decent athleticism there.

Smith has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Brinehall defend it? Smith steps over the head and cranks it - Brinehall is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Smith!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). John Smith!
