PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Ruanti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Rough (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel Ruanti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jim Rough!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Sam Margolis and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruanti defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Rough.
Rough looks for a takedown but Ruanti sprawls well.

Rough feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Rough drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Ruanti dives on top into guard.

Rough looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Ruanti passes into half guard.
Ruanti is controlling the pace.
Rough is looking to get back to full guard here but Ruanti has managed to pass to side control instead.
Rough is trying to escape the mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ruanti controlling the position easily from mount.
Rough working to try and regain half guard.
Rough tries to improve his position but instead Ruanti has taken his back!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rough tries to escape but Ruanti has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Ruanti biding his time, looking for the opening.
Rough is really stuck here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ruanti is trying to stick to Rough's back but Rough is turning into Ruanti. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Ruanti's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Rough.
Ruanti seems keen to control Rough's posture.
Rough looking to pass the guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Ruanti looks to land a combination. Rough sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


It looks like Jim Rough has been cut.
Rough looks gassed!
Rough shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ruanti sprawls well. Ruanti wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rough gets slowly back to his feet.
Daniel Ruanti has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Rough.
Rough shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ruanti but Ruanti pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Ruanti connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Good leg kick by Ruanti there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Ruanti stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ruanti lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Rough on the wrong end of a nice jab.


That has opened up Jim Rough's cut even more.
Jim Rough seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ruanti scores with a body shot.

Ruanti cracks Rough with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Ruanti has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Rough to stand back up!


Rough is rocked!
Rough switches off momentarily and Ruanti cracks him with a monster right hand! Rough topples backwards and makes a semi conscious attempt to cover up, as Ruanti dives in to land one more shot, before the referee has time to call the fight. What a finish by Ruanti!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Daniel Ruanti!
