PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brett McConomy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akimbo Jabbar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brett McConomy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Akimbo Jabbar!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Russell Pearce and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jabbar avoids the head kick by McConomy.
McConomy misses with a head kick.

McConomy tries to keep at a distance but Jabbar has taken the fight into the clinch.
Jabbar drops to a knee looking for a takedown but McConomy gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Jabbar tries to pull guard but McConomy holds him up against the cage and eventually Jabbar drops back down to his feet.
McConomy stops a takedown attempt from Jabbar.
Brett McConomy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Akimbo Jabbar.

Jabbar lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

McConomy is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Jabbar pulls his head out easily.

McConomy keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
McConomy regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Jabbar.
Jabbar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McConomy swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jabbar working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Jabbar moves into range and clinches up with McConomy.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jabbar is trying to work for a single leg takedown but McConomy pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Jabbar has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. McConomy avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

McConomy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jabbar manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now McConomy has Jabbar in his guard.
Jabbar wants to control from the top but McConomy keeps moving.
Jabbar might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control McConomy kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

McConomy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jabbar doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jabbar manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Jabbar has gone for a leg lock! McConomy slips out almost immediately though and dives into Jabbar's guard.

McConomy is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Jabbar is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Jabbar has escaped and now he's on top!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

McConomy looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Jabbar lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Jabbar missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Jabbar wants to control from the top but McConomy keeps moving.
Jabbar trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

McConomy had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jabbar defends it easily.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Jabbar closes the distance and clinches.

Jabbar gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, McConomy regains guard.
Jabbar throws a strike but McConomy rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

McConomy has gone for a leg lock! Jabbar slips out almost immediately though and dives into McConomy's guard.
Jabbar tries to free his leg and advance position but McConomy is retaining full guard.
McConomy utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
McConomy might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Jabbar thows a big elbow that misses.

McConomy has his foot on Jabbar's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jabbar works his way back into a safe position though.

McConomy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jabbar has gone for a leg lock! McConomy slips out almost immediately though and dives into Jabbar's guard.

Jabbar is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

McConomy is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Jabbar is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Jabbar has escaped and now he's on top!

Jabbar looking to sit in guard and control but McConomy gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
McConomy passes Jabbar's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
McConomy is thwarting Jabbar's attempts to control the position.
McConomy tries to pass the half guard into mount. Jabbar knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Jabbar wants to control but McConomy is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

McConomy seems to be looking for submissions.
Jabbar is pressing down on McConomy's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McConomy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

McConomy drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Jabbar dives on top into guard.

Akimbo Jabbar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

McConomy drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jabbar looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jabbar looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jabbar!
McConomy is working to avoid the ground and pound but Jabbar connects with a decent elbow.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Jabbar working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Jabbar tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jabbar has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

McConomy is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jabbar presses McConomy against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

McConomy jumps into guard, dragging Jabbar to the mat.
Jabbar throws a strike but McConomy rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Jabbar is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
McConomy is not content to let Jabbar control the position.
Jabbar is pressing down on McConomy's thigh, looking to free his foot. McConomy is holding on for now.
Akimbo Jabbar is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Akimbo Jabbar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jabbar has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
