PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cross David (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Grundy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Dan Grundy enters the ring!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Cross David!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Dan Grundy!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
David works Grundy's body with a nice hook.
Grundy looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Grundy tries to clinch but David is having none of it.
Grundy fails with the takedown.
Grundy changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. David tries to avoid it but Grundy manages to keep hold of a leg and drag David to the ground. David escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Cross David has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Grundy.
Grundy wants to clinch.

David drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells David's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
David slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
David wants to lay and pray for a moment but Grundy keeps working.

David tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
David lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Grundy down.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Grundy is not content to let David control the position.
David wants to control for a moment but Grundy uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Grundy tries to kick David off but David keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

David is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
David prevents Grundy from standing back up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
David is looking to take a break and control but Grundy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Grundy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with David. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Still in half guard, David seems content to control.
David is keen to just control but Grundy is a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

David scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Grundy is refusing to be controlled, as David sits in half guard.

David is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Grundy has managed to free his arm - good work.

David seems to be looking for submissions.

Grundy is squirming around, avoiding David's attempts to control the action.

David looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

David wants to control the pace but Grundy is squirming around nicely.
David won't let Grundy get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
David lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.


It looks like Dan Grundy has been cut.
Grundy is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
David tries to control but Grundy wriggling away.
Grundy takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
David looking to control but Grundy is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
David lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cross David dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Dan Grundy's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

That has opened up Dan Grundy's cut even more.

David shoots in and bounces Grundy off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
David works a leg free and moves into half guard.
David wants to pass to mount but Grundy is defending the position.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting David here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

The cut above Dan Grundy's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
David wants to take a breather but Grundy is having none of it.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. David connects with a nice short shot to Grundy's temple.
David wants to control but Grundy is keeping him busy.
Grundy looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
David seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Grundy does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Grundy is defending against the submission attempts here by David.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

David is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
David is stalling here. Grundy is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! David seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Grundy has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Grundy wants to stand but David is controlling his arm.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
David is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Grundy off and has taken his back!
Cross David overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
David connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Grundy to escape the position.
Grundy is breathing heavily.
David softening up his opponent with strikes here.


Grundy is rocked!


Dan Grundy's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Dan Grundy's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Cross David!
