PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gary Dove (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gravy Train (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gary Dove!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gravy Train!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Donatello Bradman and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dove throws a hook but Train avoids it easily.
Train takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Train tries to clinch but Dove moves out of range.
A slow jab from Dove misses its intended target.
Train takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Dove throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Train was covering up waiting for the punch and Dove finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Dove passes Train's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Dove wants to free his trapped foot but Train is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Dove stalling.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Train gets back to full guard.
Dove pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Train is keeping the position for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Doveis looking to pass into half guard but Train pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Train is in guard.
Train must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Dove working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Train doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Train manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Dove pulls Train in close to prevent any damage.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Dove bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Train's head backwards.
Dove scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Train doesn't seem bothered though.
Train fails in his attempt to clinch.
Dove thuds a left hand into Train's body.
Dove scores with a nice strike.
Dove moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
A jab from Dove does it's job there.
The fighters circling - Dove throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Dove lands a nice looking body shot.
Train is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Good exchange - Dove coming out on top.

Dove connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Train momentarily.
Train takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Train takes one on the button.
A nice combination there by Dove.
Train on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Dove lands a nice shot that snaps Train's head back.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dove lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Dove.
Train tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Dove paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Train needs to keep his hands up - Dove had a free shot at his head there.

Dove scores with a one two! Train had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Dove lands with a right hand.
Dove connects with the punch.

Dove drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Dove controls from within his opponent's guard.
Dove has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Dove's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee asks Dove politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Dove prefers to stall for the moment though.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Gary Dove just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Dove keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Dove shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Train manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Train not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Dove controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Train looking for a guillotine here but Dove defends easily.
Dove controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dove seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Train for as long as he can get away with.

Dove has gone for a leg lock! Train slips out almost immediately though and dives into Dove's guard.
Dove looking for a sweep. Not yet Dove, not yet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Dove not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Train looking to pass the guard.
Train looking to sit in guard and control but Dove gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Dove sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Dove advances to half guard.

Dove controlling the action here.
Dove is looking to take a break and control but Train is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Dove is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Train reverses the position - he's now on top in Dove's guard.

Dove had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Train defends it easily.

Train is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Dove is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Dove has escaped and now he's on top!
Dove wants to pass the guard but Train is keeping the position.

Well Dove has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
