PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Frazier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Duncan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duncan has chosen Haka as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tom Duncan!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Daniel Blasius and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duncan misses with a low kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Duncan. Frazier does a little dance to reset his feet.
A head kick misses from Duncan.
Duncan fails in his attempt to clinch.
Frazier throws a hook but Duncan blocks it.
Duncan looks to land a body kick but Frazier moved away.
Frazier waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Duncan.
Frazier throws an overhand right that lands on Duncan's shoulder, as Duncan tries to avoid the shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Duncan swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Frazier moves out of range as Duncan throws a body kick.
Frazier displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Duncan throws out the jab.

Duncan lands with a nice combination. Frazier backs away looking to recover.


It looks like Joe Frazier has been cut.
Duncan looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Duncan shoots in but no luck this time.
Duncan takes a shot to the body in his stride.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Duncan walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Duncan scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Joe Frazier is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Duncan dives in and grabs Frazier's left leg, looking for a takedown. Frazier pushes down on Duncan's head and hops out.
Joe Frazier has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tom Duncan.

Frazier swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Duncan tries to clinch up but Frazier circles away and keeps his distance.
Duncan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Frazier manages to avoid it.
Frazier takes a swing at Duncan's ribcage but misses.

Duncan shoots in for a double leg but Frazier sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Frazier slaps away a takedown attempt from Duncan, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Frazier throws out a loose jab but Duncan uses good head movement to avoid it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Frazier thows a left - swing and a miss!
Frazier lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Frazier throws a big shot that misses.
Frazier scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Frazier circles away from the clinch attempt.
Frazier lands with an overhand left.
Frazier comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Duncan looks gassed!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Frazier connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Duncan momentarily.
Frazier cracks Duncan with a right hand to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Frazier's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Duncan avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Duncan tries to close the distance and clinch but Frazier swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Duncan misses with a double jab
and Duncan takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Frazier lands a left and a right that send Duncan crashing to the mat, dazed. Frazier thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Duncan shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Frazier manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Duncan tries to free his leg and advance position but Frazier is retaining full guard.

Frazier wants to sweep but no luck.
Duncan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Frazier is keeping the position for now.

Frazier's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Frazier can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Duncan controls the pace.
Duncan tries to free his leg and advance position but Frazier is retaining full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Duncan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Frazier throws out a loose jab but Duncan uses good head movement to avoid it.
Frazier dips to his left and cracks Duncan with an uppercut!
Duncan fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Duncan walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Frazier checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frazier stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Duncan throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Duncan looks to clinch
and Frazier counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Duncan throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
letting Frazier counter with a right hand.
Frazier looks to score with a jab to the body but Duncan is just out of range.
Frazier takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Frazier throws a sloppy body shot
and Duncan counters with a one-two to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Duncan moves in looking to clinch but Frazier pushes him off.
Duncan pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Frazier lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Frazier goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Frazier throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Duncan takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Duncan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Duncan shoots for a takedown but Frazier saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joe Frazier showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Frazier, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
