Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Robert Assman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luke Lucas!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Assman misses.
Lucas is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Assman throws a shot from downtown. Lucas moves away and avoids it.
Lucas moves in looking to clinch but Assman pushes him off.
Assman looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Assman scores with a punch to the head.
Lucas is rocked!
Assman throws a hook but Lucas avoids it easily.
Lucas is still on wobbly legs! Can Assman finish him?
Assman looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Assman is pressing down on Lucas's thigh, looking to free his foot. Lucas is holding on for now.
Assman works his way into side control.
Lucas manages to work his way to half guard, despite Assman's best efforts.
Assman is thwarting Lucas's attempts to control the position.
Assman uses his free foot to push down on Lucas's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Lucas.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Assman looking for a guillotine from mount but Lucas is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Assman cracks Lucas with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Assman raining down shots from the mount!
Lucas tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Assman looking to control but Lucas is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Assman is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Lucas keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Lucas wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Lucas is covering up but some of the strikes from Assman are getting through and doing damage.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Oooh a big shot gets through from Assman. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Lucas grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
Assman is trying to stick to Lucas's back but Lucas is turning into Assman. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Assman's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Lucas.
Lucas looks gassed!
Assman had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Lucas is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Assman Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Lucas's back instead.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lucas wants to escape the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Assman is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
The referee is taking a good look at Lucas as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Assman!
Assman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lucas tries to break free.
Assman is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Lucas defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Assman is looking to control Lucas but Lucas is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Assman is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Lucas up.
Assman is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Lucas looking very determined here, making life difficult for Assman.
Assman is cranking Lucas's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Lucas! He's tightened the choke and Lucas is tapping out!
