Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jay Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kaleb Phillips!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phillips lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Johnson circles away quickly and effectively.
Johnson looks for a takedown but Phillips sprawls well.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown but Phillips shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Phillips lands a nice shot that snaps Johnson's head back.
Phillips changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Phillips leaves Johnson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Johnson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Phillips moves in looking to clinch but Johnson pushes him off.
Johnson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Phillips's waist but Phillips gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Johnson off to one side.

Phillips has closed the distance and engaged Johnson in a clinch.

Johnson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Phillips is desperately trying to improve his position but Johnson has a good base and remains in mount.

Johnson sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Johnson goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Phillips is on top in guard.

Johnson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Phillips gets to his feet - Johnson follows without any prompting.
Johnson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Phillips circles away.

Johnson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Phillips's guard.

Johnson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Phillips dives on top into guard.
Johnson is breathing heavily.

Phillips won't allow Johnson to sweep him here.

Johnson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Phillips defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Phillips wanted to stand there but Johnson had control of the position.

Johnson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Phillips is one step ahead there.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Johnson working for submissions but it's allowed Phillips to get to half guard.
Johnson is trying to get back to full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Phillips not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Johnson takes one to the side of the head.
Phillips scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Phillips misses with a hook.
Phillips checks a leg kick.
Johnson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Phillips pinned against the cage. Phillips gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Johnson shoots in looking for a takedown. Phillips tries to sprawl out of it but Johnson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Phillips manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Johnson closes the distance and clinches up with Phillips, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes Phillips against the cage but Phillips circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Phillips's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Phillips has Johnson up against the cage in a clinch.
Johnson is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Johnson gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Phillips regains guard.
Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Phillips swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Johnson is looking to work some ground and pound but Phillips has wrist control.

Johnson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Phillips dives on top into guard.

Johnson isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Phillips stacks Johnson on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Phillips!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Johnson tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Phillips stands up and beckons Johnson to his feet.
Johnson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Phillips sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Johnson somewhat.
Kaleb Phillips is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Phillips tries to clinch up but Johnson circles away and keeps his distance.
Phillips is looking to land body kicks.
Johnson shoots in looking for a takedown. Phillips tries to sprawl out of it but Johnson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Phillips manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Phillips looks to land a left hand but Johnson moved out of range nicely.

Nice takedown defense from Phillips. No joy for Johnson on that attempt.
Phillips goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like Jay Johnson has been cut.
Johnson has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Phillips waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Johnson.
Johnson takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Kaleb Phillips seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Jay Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown by Johnson or perhaps it was just good defense by Phillips which made him look bad.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Phillips tries to bum rush Johnson with a series of wild strikes but Johnson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Kaleb Phillips showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Johnson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Phillips gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johnson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Phillips manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Johnson has Phillips in his guard.
Johnson is trying to hold Phillips in close to prevent damage but Phillips has managed to pass into half guard.
Johnson is refusing to be controlled, as Phillips sits in half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Johnson sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Phillips decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Johnson avoids the body shot from Phillips.

Johnson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Phillips is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Phillips has escaped and now he's on top!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Johnson wants to sweep here but Phillips controlling him for the moment.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

I think Phillips has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
