PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Corey Haim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Will Whyte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Haim comes into the arena with Black And Yellow blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Corey Haim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Will Whyte!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Haim shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Haim is trying to control the action in half guard but Whyte is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Haim thows a huge punch but Whyte dodges it nicely.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Whyte can do anything to dispel that myth.
Haim is pressing down on Whyte's thigh, looking to free his foot. Whyte is holding on for now.
Haim is trying to control. Whyte wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Haim is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Whyte has managed to free his arm - good work.
Whyte avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Haim.

Haim is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Haim is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Haim throws some wild stikes that Whyte manages to avoid easily.
Haim wants to take Whyte's back but he can't do it this time.
Whyte is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Haim goes for an armbar but Whyte turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Whyte.

Haim had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Whyte defends it easily.
Whyte tries to stand but Haim is controlling from the bottom.

Whyte wants to pass the guard but Haim is keeping the position.
Whyte wants to stand but Haim is controlling his posture from full guard.
Whyte really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Haim. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Haim wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Whyte is now in half guard.
Haim tries to roll over but Whyte keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Whyte wants to take a breather but Haim is having none of it.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Haim tries to get to full guard but Whyte has control of the leg.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Haim misses the jab.
Will Whyte is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Whyte dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Haim. That did some damage!
Haim fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Some wild striking there from Whyte.
Haim shoots in for a takedown but Whyte shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Haim takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Haim throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Whyte.

Whyte slips a jab and a cross from Haim.
Haim tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Whyte swivels and escapes.

Haim shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Whyte manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Haim tries to score a power double leg takedown but Whyte sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Haim somewhat.

Whyte on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Haim seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Haim advances position into side control!
Haim wants to lay and pray for a moment but Whyte keeps working.

Haim is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Whyte knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Haim wants to control but Whyte is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Haim throws a right hand that Whyte ducks under and follows up with a left that Whyte also avoids with ease.

and Whyte counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Whyte avoids a punch combination nicely.

Haim drops back looking for a leg! Whyte is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Whyte manages to kick Haim off! Haim jumps back into Whyte's guard.

Haim is looking to work some ground and pound but Whyte has wrist control.

Whyte misses with an uppercut. Haim saw that one coming.

Whyte will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Haim creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Whyte sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Haim moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Whyte has worked his arm free - good work by Whyte!
Whyte is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Haim has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Haim has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Whyte defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Haim.

And that's the end of the fight!
Corey Haim showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Haim, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
