PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shang Tsung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tsung kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Mortal Kombat Theme Remix. Smith has chosen Enter Sandman as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Dan Smith enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shang Tsung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Smith!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Smith does no damage.
Smith looks to land a combination but Tsung avoids it well.
Tsung looks to land a combination but Smith avoids it well.
Tsung avoids the body shot from Smith.
Smith checks the leg kick nicely there.

Smith circles away from the clinch attempt.
Smith fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Tsung on the side of the head.

and Tsung counters with a nice low kick that buckles Smith's knee momentarily.

Tsung moves out of range as Smith strikes.

Tsung throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Tsung tries to land knees in the clinch but Smith avoids the damage to the body.

and Tsung counters with a nice uppercut.
Tsung moves out of range as Smith strikes.
Smith slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Nice uppercut lands for Smith. That snapped Tsung's head back.
Tsung throws a jab but it's blocked by Smith.
Smith missing with a left hand there. Tsung was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Smith loads up on a big right hand but Tsung slips the punch.
Smith cracks a nice hook into Tsung's ribs.
Smith misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Tsung counters with a nice leg kick.
Smith lands a nice looking body shot.

Smith fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Tsung gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Tsung takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Smith misses with a straight left.
Smith connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Smith swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Tsung misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Smith scores with a crisp jab that stopped Tsung in his tracks.
Tsung takes a shot to the body in his stride.

and Tsung counters with a head kick.
Dan Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Tsung shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Smith defends it nicely.
Tsung takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Smith misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Tsung.
Tsung uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Smith.
Smith is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Tsung had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Smith swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Smith lands with a nice combination. Tsung backs away looking to recover.
Tsung takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Tsung uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Smith.
Smith is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Tsung.

Smith throws a hook to the side of Tsung's head but Tsung sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Tsung uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Smith.

and Tsung counters with a leg kick.
Smith dips to his left and cracks Tsung with an uppercut!
Smith misses with a straight right.
Smith fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tsung manages to avoid it.
Tsung walks into a straight right hand from Smith.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dan Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Smith will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Tsung takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Tsung throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Tsung ducks under a wild hook from Smith.
Tsung scores with a hook to the body. Smith takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Tsung throws a head kick that half lands.
Tsung slips under a jab from Smith.
Smith misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Tsung counters with a right hand to the body.
Smith throws a left and a right that both miss
and Tsung makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Tsung throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Smith fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Tsung looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Tsung throws a right and a left that Smith avoids nicely.

Smith with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Tsung shoots in looking for a takedown. Smith tries to sprawl out of it but Tsung keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Tsung counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Smith has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Tsung is working away from the top position though.
Smith won't allow Tsung to pass to mount.

Tsung is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Tsung is just content to waste time from the top position. Smith takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Tsung not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Tsung's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Smith wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Tsung is now in half guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Tsung throws out a leg kick but Smith moves out of range and Tsung only half commits.
Tsung moves out of range of the strikes.
Tsung on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Tsung.
Smith connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Smith throws a lazy right hand but Tsung sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Tsung uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Smith.
Tsung throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Smith scores with a three punch combo!
Smith throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Tsung scores with a leg kick.
Tsung blocks a jab.
Smith is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Tsung.
A nice inside leg kick there by Tsung. That's going to slow Smith down.
Tsung looks to land a body kick but Smith moved away.
A jab lands there for Smith.
Smith lands a nice shot to the body.
Tsung looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

and Tsung finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Tsung drops his hands momentarily and Smith takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Smith scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Tsung changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Smith looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The referee asks Tsung politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Tsung prefers to stall for the moment though.
Tsung wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy.
Smith regains half guard.
Tsung trying to control from half guard but Smith is working away.
Smith is trying to control but can't.

Tsung is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Tsung thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smith has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Tsung is working away from the top position though.
Tsung prevents Smith from improving his position.
Tsung not doing much here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Smith just misses with a punch to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Shang Tsung.
I think Tsung has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
