PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Woody Paige (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Emanuel Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Emanuel Diaz told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Woody Paige!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Emanuel Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Skip Squint.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paige throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Diaz slips under a jab from Paige.
Paige throws a lazy right hand but Diaz sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Paige connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Diaz momentarily.
Horrible takedown by Diaz or perhaps it was just good defense by Paige which made him look bad.
Diaz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Paige swivels and escapes.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Paige as he jumps to the side.
Woody Paige has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Emanuel Diaz.
Paige lands an overhand right.
Diaz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Paige's waist but Paige gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Diaz off to one side.
A looping hook to the body misses from Paige. Diaz does a little dance to reset his feet.

Diaz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Paige is trying to get back to his feet.
Paige knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Diaz on the ground.
Paige wants to control but Diaz postures up.
Diaz trying to control the position but Paige is working away.
Paige is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Diaz is controlling him well.

Diaz works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

You can see the frustration on Paige's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Diaz tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Paige is trying to control Diaz's posture but Diaz avoids it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Paige is looking to reverse the position.
Paige is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Diaz is controlling him well.
Paige gets back to half guard.
Paige wants to improve his position but Diaz is controlling well.
Paige is trying to stand back up but Diaz is controlling him
Diaz looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Diaz works his way into full mount!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Diaz cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Paige is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Diaz has taken his back!

Diaz looking to break Paige's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Paige remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Diaz will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Paige is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Diaz gets his way!
Diaz looks gassed!
Diaz throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Diaz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Paige manages to stand up with Diaz still on his back. Eventually Diaz drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position.
Paige misses with a two punch combination.

Diaz slips under a jab.
Diaz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Paige tries to avoid it but Diaz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Paige to the ground. Paige escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Paige defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Diaz.
Paige rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Diaz moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Paige leaves Diaz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Diaz slips a jab and a cross from Paige.
Diaz showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Paige.
Paige tries to bum rush Diaz with a series of wild strikes but Diaz uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Diaz fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Emanuel Diaz will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Nice uppercut lands for Paige. That snapped Diaz's head back.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Paige sprawls well. Paige wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Diaz gets slowly back to his feet.
Diaz takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Paige throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Diaz on the side of the head.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Paige throws a right and a left that both miss.
Paige lands a jab-cross combination.
Paige lets loose with a powerful body kick. Diaz will feel that in the morning.
Paige just misses with a punch to the body.

Paige slaps away a takedown attempt from Diaz, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Diaz is breathing heavily.
Paige throws a right hand that Diaz ducks under and follows up with a left that Diaz also avoids with ease.

Paige lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Diaz backs up against the cage.
Paige ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Danga de danga de dang - Paige scores with a four punch combination!

It looks like Emanuel Diaz has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Paige drops Diaz with a beautiful combination! Diaz stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Paige is looking for the KO!

Diaz is rocked!
Paige connects with a stiff jab that staggers Diaz - oh and he follows up with a huge uppercut that knocks him out cold! Man, that was brutal!
