PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bin Laden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Stevenson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stevenson has chosen This Love, This Hate by Hollywood Undead as his entrance music. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bin Laden!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeff Stevenson!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Eddie Farnsworth and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laden blocks a leg kick.
Stevenson misses with a body shot.
Stevenson misses the jab.
Stevenson misses with a double jab.
Stevenson jabs Laden right on the nose. Laden blinks but takes it well.
Stevenson throws out a leg kick but Laden moves out of range and Stevenson only half commits.
Laden keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Stevenson.
Stevenson throws a jab when Laden was well out of range.
Stevenson closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Laden moves away from the strike by Stevenson.
Stevenson tried to score with a low kick but Laden checks it.
Stevenson misses with a jab, cross combination.

A looping hook to the body misses from Stevenson. Laden does a little dance to reset his feet.

Laden shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Laden was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Laden is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Stevenson is surviving well by controlling Laden's body position as best he can.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stevenson is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Stevenson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Laden wants to control the pace but Stevenson is squirming around nicely.
Stevenson tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Stevenson is rocked!
Stevenson sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Laden wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stevenson keeps working.

Laden seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Laden wants to pass the guard but Stevenson is defending well.
Stevenson manages to get to full guard.
Laden trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Laden is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Stevenson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Stevenson has escaped and now he's on top!
Stevenson wants to pass the guard but Laden is keeping the position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bin Laden will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Stevenson misses with the combination.
Laden changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Stevenson tries to avoid it but Laden manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Stevenson to the ground. Stevenson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Laden looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Stevenson is fending him off so far but Laden persists. Nope, Stevenson circles away and we're back to standing.
Stevenson misses with a low kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stevenson looks to score with a jab to the body but Laden is just out of range.
Stevenson throws a body punch but Laden moves out of range.
Stevenson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Laden moves away.
Jeff Stevenson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Stevenson throws a right and a left that Laden avoids nicely.
Bin Laden is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Stevenson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Laden.
Nice defenses there by Laden.
Stevenson misses with an uppercut.

Stevenson lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Laden backs up against the cage.

A jab-cross combination lands for Stevenson and sends Laden crashing to the mat! Stevenson follows him down to the mat - Laden regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!


Laden is rocked!


It looks like Bin Laden has been cut.
Laden is looking to improve his position.
Stevenson winds up and cracks Laden with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Stevenson is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Laden still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Laden has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Laden looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Stevenson tries to buck Laden off but Laden is having none of it.
You can see the frustration on Stevenson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Laden laying and praying for a moment but Stevenson takes advantage and regains half guard.

Laden seems to be looking for submissions.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Stevenson is trying to get back to full guard.
Stevenson throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Laden is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Stevenson defends it well.
Stevenson trying to hold on to Laden's head to control him but Laden postures up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Stevenson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Stevenson misses with the combination.
Laden shoots in looking for a takedown. Stevenson tries to sprawl out of it but Laden keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Stevenson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bin Laden. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stevenson throws a combination. Laden tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Stevenson catches Laden with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Stevenson wants to slow Laden down by chopping away at his legs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Stevenson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Bin Laden's cut.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Stevenson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Laden.
Stevenson jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Stevenson throws a right and a left that Laden avoids nicely.
Laden takes one to the side of the head.
Stevenson misses with a hook.
A chopping leg kick lands by Stevenson.
Laden has a takedown stuffed.

Stevenson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A combination from Stevenson does no damage.
Stevenson throws and low kick but Laden moves out of range easily.
Stevenson fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Laden on the side of the head.

Stevenson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Stevenson stands and throws Laden's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Stevenson in side control, throwing shots but Laden defends.

Laden is looking for a sweep.
Stevenson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Laden keeps working.
Laden tries to buck Stevenson off but Stevenson is having none of it.
Stevenson trying to control the position but Laden is working away.

Stevenson swings around for an armbar but Laden sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Stevenson's guard.

Laden wants to pass the guard but Stevenson is keeping the position.
Laden won't allow Stevenson to sweep him here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Laden rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Stevenson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Stevenson tried to score with a low kick but Laden checks it.
Stevenson tries to work over Laden's front leg with a kick but Laden checks it.
Stevenson bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Stevenson throws a left and a right that both miss

and Laden counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Stevenson wants to improve his position but Laden is controlling well.

Stevenson throws a looping overhand right but Laden ducks down to avoid it.

I think Stevenson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
