PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nick Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Casillas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jacob Casillas!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Casillas stuffs the takedown.

Casillas lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Johnson shoots for a takedown but Casillas saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nick Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Johnson wants to clinch up but Casillas keeps it at a distance.
Casillas keeps the fight on the outside.
Johnson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Casillas sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Johnson somewhat.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Casillas as he jumps to the side.
Johnson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Casillas's waist but Casillas gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Johnson off to one side.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Johnson.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Casillas displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Johnson.
Johnson closes the distance and clinches up with Casillas, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes Casillas against the cage but Casillas circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Johnson is breathing heavily.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Johnson attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Casillas dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
A telegraphed right hand from Johnson misses the target.
Johnson fails with a takedown attempt.
Casillas connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Casillas missing with a left hand there. Johnson was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Nice cross by Casillas.
Johnson on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Casillas. Casillas obviously looking to wear him down.
Johnson moves out of range as Casillas strikes.
Casillas buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Casillas pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Casillas shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Johnson napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Casillas is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Johnson will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

I looks like Casillas might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Casillas wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Johnson, who protects the arm well.
Casillas working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Casillas's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Casillas lands a few punches from side control.
Casillas controls the position from side control.

Casillas looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Casillas is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jacob Casillas dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Casillas paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Johnson jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Casillas throws a body punch but Johnson moves out of range.
Johnson throws a leg kick
and Casillas counters with a slapping leg kick.
Casillas swings for the body but Johnson moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Casillas counters with a low kick, right behind Johnson 's knee.
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt

and Casillas decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Johnson's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Johnson throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Casillas escapes and throws Johnson's legs to the side, diving into side control!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Casillas has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Johnson!

Casillas has control of Johnson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Johnson regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Johnson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Casillas lands with some strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Casillas is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Johnson can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Casillas looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Casillas controlling from the full mount.

Johnson has left one of his arms exposed and Casillas doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Johnson screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jacob Casillas!
